In my previous post, I showed you a picture of wood covered windows in my local law library. To the right, is a picture of the doors below each window. As you can see, the doors are made of the same intricately carved pattern that adorns the wood embellished glass above it. It adds even more elegance to an otherwise simple library. Just like in my previous post, you can also bring this look into your space. There are DIY kits that you can buy to add embellishments and raised patterns to your furniture and doors. You can use these to create a similar look for your own doors. Remember, no matter how grand a design may seem, there’s always a way to scale it down and make it work for any space.

Wood Embellished Glass
In the law library featured in my previous posts, there are large glass panes separating one side of the library from the main hall. I love the look of these intricately carved, elegant windows! While most of us don’t own the type of home where this look is feasible, there’s still a way to bring the look into your home. After you’ve found a building with a similar architectural look, take a photo and enlarge it to mural size. Apply the photo to a wall and viola-instant elegance! Remember, even the most ornate and expensive-looking features can be applied to any space. With a little imagination, you can give a cottage the grandeur of a castle.
Ornate Bronze Wall Sconces

I was strolling through my local law library when I looked up and saw these beautiful, intricate wall sconces. The sconces were a unique piece of lighting that stood out in the otherwise plain library. When a space features a unique piece of artistry or architecture, a little bit goes a long way. Need to dress up your plain space? Try a unique lamp, oddly shaped mirror, or an ornate piece of furniture. One piece can make a bold statement, so be sure to choose something that not only stands out beautifully, but is also uniquely you!
Bunches of Creamy Cherry Blossoms
Even though the weather has currently taken a turn for the worst, I’ll always have beautiful, inspiring photos to look at! On the right you’ll see a picture of the creamy cherry blossom tree I used in a previous post. It’s great to be able to look back and enjoy nature’s beauty on rainy days. These types of photos are a great way to not only bring a bit of nature into your space, but also a way to remind you of brighter days ahead!
The Creamy Cherry Blossoms
When most people, including myself, think of cherry blossoms, they likely imagine the pink ones in my previous post. However, cherry blossoms come in a multitude of shades, including white. The blossoms pictured on the right is a picture of cherry blossoms from trees that grow outside my office building. It’s great to be able to see these beautiful blossoms and watch their petals fall like snow in the wind. As the photo demonstrates, these flowers even have a pop of pink inside some of them! Remember, pops of color work great with neutrals. If it works for nature, it’ll look great in your own space!
The Sunny Daffodil
When you think of flowers, one often thinks of daffodils. They’re a bright, sunny color and add a cheerful disposition to any space. While it’s great to have fresh flowers, sometimes it’s not an option. The solution? Use a picture! Taking photos of flowers you receive is a great way to be able to use them long beyond their expiration date. Putting a similar photo on your desk or in your space not only creates a golden pop of color, but also creates a sunny mood even in the heart of winter.
Dressing Up a Chest of Drawers: Part 3
In part 3 of my Chest of Drawers posts, I’ll be using a more whimsical take on decorating. Whether you’re a kid or kid at heart, there’s nothing wrong with adding some cute stuffed animals to your bedroom furniture! You could add a variety of different stuffed animals, or have a specific theme. The two themes I used below are Hello Kitty and teddy bears. I have an abundance of both, so they were the perfect muses for my third post.
There’s nothing wrong with displaying a collection of stuffed animals, dolls, action figures, or figurines on your chest of drawers. Remember, a bit of whimsy is a great way to not only create pops of color, but also add a bit of fun to any space!
Dressing Up a Chest of Drawers: Part 2
For my second post I’ll be going for a muted, elegant look. Today’s theme will revolved around a cream color scheme. As seen on the right, I used a lamp with a clear base and cream-colored shade, along with cream-colored boxes and one floral print box for a pop of color. As with my previous post, all of the items displayed are ones I already owned. The clear base of the lamp blends in with any decor, and allows the elegant, cream-colored theme to shine. In order to give the space a bit of color, I added a floral patterned box to the pile to create some visual interest. Once again, you can create amazing things when you use what you already own. No matter what type of boxes you use, you can create a chic, elegant look that will dress up any space!
Dressing Up a Chest of Drawers: Part 1
Often times we use the top of our bedroom furniture as a catch-all for various items. Instead of the usual look, I decided to dress it up a bit! In my first of several posts on the topic, I’ll show you multiple ways to accentuate the top of your chest of drawers. Today, I’m showcasing a silver theme. I have my frog prince statue, a lamp with a silver base, and two silver canisters topped with faux flowers for a pop of color. This simple theme gives a touch of shine to an otherwise plain space. Although I used silver, you could use any color or combination of metals. Additionally, the pops of gold and turquoise give some much needed color to what could be a cold look. All the items used were things I already owned, making this look both gorgeous and free. If you have objects in similar tones, group them together to create a cohesive look. Not only will you add a touch of interest to your bedroom furniture, but you’ll also get the chance to display great pieces you already own.
Adding Accessories to Your Living Room
While our living room was pretty much put together, it felt like something was missing. Our coffee table seemed a little too bare. The solution? Add an accessory! My Mom came up with the perfect idea: a bowl filled with various objects. She found the items (a bowl, objects of various sizes and textures, and a place mat) on sale and brought them to me to put together. As seen below, it looks absolutely gorgeous on the coffee table! The second picture shows a close up shot of what the bowl holds.
The colors and textures in the bowl complement the rest of the decor throughout the space. In addition, the carved eggs are something we picked up years ago while on vacation. Overall, this addition costs less than $20! If you want to give your space a new look, all you need is a little imagination and some old treasures to transform your space into something chic and glamorous!
