For the fourth post in this series, I’ll once again be focusing on a pattern from one of my dresses. This one is a simple polka dot a pattern in black and gray. This pattern can easily go with any decor, and would be the perfect addition to frame and put on your wall. Looking for a way to tie a pattern into the rest of your room? Buy a similar fabric and create covers for your pillows. Doing this is an easy and inexpensive way to create a cohesive look for any room. With a little imagination, even the simplest of patterns can create a new look for an old space!

Picture a Pattern: Part 3
In my third post I’ll be highlighting another source of inspiration for your home decor: clothing! The picture above is a photo of one of my favorite dresses. It features various types of patterns in yellow, black, white, grey, and brown. These colors go great with a neutral color palette! The pops of yellow are the perfect addition to a bedroom, den, or hallway wall. The colors blend perfectly together and contain hues that everyone has in their home. Inspiration can come from many sources, so keep your eyes open for great ideas that can be as close as your own closet!
Picture a Pattern: Part 2
As seen on the right, this second post highlights a pattern that is perfect for winter! The pattern is actually a section of a Christmas present box that features multiple colors and snowflakes. The snowflakes make it perfect for winter, and the pops of color give the pattern added depth. A similar photo would look great in a living room or bedroom. The range of colors in the pattern-red, green, blue, and white-gives it greater flexibility, as it allows the picture to blend in with just about any decor. No matter what colors you choose, you can find a great pattern that will bring seasonal fun into your space!
Picture a Pattern: Part 1
Hello! In this new series of posts, I’ll be featuring a number of patterns that are great for decorating. I’ll start by showcasing a pink paisley pattern (right) from an ottoman located in a bedroom. While the ottoman itself brings a great pop of color, I wanted another way to tie it into the overall decor. My solution? Frame a picture of the pattern! This allows me to better tie in the pattern to the rest of my decor. You can do the same thing with your own ottoman, or use a pattern from a favorite rug, comforter, or pillow. Stay tuned for more ideas on framing patterns to add a unique touch to your space!
The Creek that Never Was
Staring out the window you can’t help but notice the mature trees and what looks like a small, dried up creek. It reality, this meandering indentation is a trench for an underground pipe. After installation, the trench was never filled in. As a result, I’m left with a beautiful picture of a faux creek meandering through trees! A similar picture is a great way to bring the outdoors into any room. As I’ve said in previous posts, optical illusions can provide great photographs and fun stories. No matter where you are, you’re sure to find an optical illusion that will be the perfect addition to your space!
A Bend in the Tracks
On one of my daily walks, I made my way down a hill and saw these railroad tracks curving around a bend. I like how the tracks are flanked on both sides by a fence, in addition to the trees that seem to lean inwards. Though you may not think so, there are so many possibilities with a photo like this! It would look great displayed in a living room or den, or could be the inspiration for a new decorating theme that incorporates earth tones mixed with metal and wood-based accessories. Taking photos of places near your home or work is a great way to find new ways to inspire yourself and decorate your space. Whether displaying your works of photography, or using them as a base for new decor, there’s a whole world out there waiting to inspire you!
The Glowing Clouds Beyond the Trees
One evening, my Mom called me over to the window to view the glowing clouds during a sunset. I love the various shades of orange, red, purple, and blue! The trees appear to frame the photo, creating a unique shot. If you have a favorite time of day when you think the sky looks its best, take a photo and display it prominently in your home. This will not only allow you to show off your photography skills, but you’ll also have a great addition to your wall. Displaying a photo on your wall is a great way to bring new life into an old space. No matter if it’s sunrise, sunset, or high noon, you’ll find the perfect time to photograph the perfect sky!
Snow-Capped Mountain Range
On a recent walk I happened to look over towards the bay and noticed the snow-capped mountains in the distance. I love the layers of colors in this photo: the blue of the water, green trees, and white mountains. You can bring a similar color trio into your space as well! Try adding blue, green, and white throw pillows to a couch or bed to update the look. The pillows can be plain, or you can go bold with a large geometric pattern. We often want to start fresh for the new year, but a complete overhaul of your decor can be costly. By using a few throw pillows to update your look, you can easily, and affordably, update your space.

Framing Windows with Wreaths
Last year after Christmas my Mom spotted a pile of wreaths on clearance at a big box store. I wasn’t sure I wanted them, but my mom insisted “You’ll find something to do with them.” And you know what? I did! While last year I used traditional wreaths, this year I opted for the shiny red and green ones my Mom found. I couldn’t decide which ones to use, so I used both (there’s a set on each side of the window)! I then added bows to give them extra dimension. Want to do something similar? Try combining decorations to create something unique and memorable. It’ll give you a chance to show off your great taste and unique style!
