Framing Your Favorite Fabric

Pink summer yukata 1After wanting a kimono for a long time, last month I decided to purchase a summer yukata (similar to a kimono, except made of cotton). Once I saw how beautiful the yukata was in person, I decided I had to share a picture with you! As seen in the photos, the pink fabric is accentuated with sparkling, silver thread and features several varieties of flowers.

Framing photos of your favorite fabrics is a great way to add personality to your space. It provides a pop of color, and the intricacies of the fabric’s design will have your guests talking. No matter what type of fabric you choose, you can create a beautiful piece of art that’s all you!

Optical Illusions

Optical illusion building_two to oneSome of the best pictures you can take are ones that create an optical illusion. This can be easily accomplished by changing the angle of your camera, or taking photos in different types of light. The picture to the right is an example of how changing angles can create an optical illusion. Despite how it looks, this is not a picture of a building-it’s actually two buildings. By going around the block and adjusting my camera, I was able to turn two buildings into one! Displaying similar pictures in your space is a great way to use locations you might have already photographed in different ways. Remember, there are a myriad of ways to create optical illusions. All you need is a bit of imagination and adventure to create an original photo that’s uniquely you.

Trees in Bloom

Flowering PoplarAbout two weeks ago I was taking a walk during lunch, when I looked up and saw something unusual. It appeared that a tree had a blooming flower on it! I wasn’t sure what type of tree it was, so I decided to do some investigating. After doing some research, I found out the tree was a Tulip Poplar. Displaying photos of unusual plants is a great way to add interest and color to your space. You could display several smaller pictures on a wall or bookshelf, or use one large photo as a focal point in the room. Next time you’re enjoying the great outdoors, pay attention to unusual plants that may be hiding in plain sight. If you do, you’ll be able to capture a photo of a unique plant that will give you something new to decorate your space with!

Old School Postal Box

While it’s no longer in use, the postal box has been kept in perfect condition over the years. Vintage items like this are great conversation pieces, and also makes you think about the craftsmanship we use to put into everyday items. Looking to add some vintage charm of your own? There are several ways you can get the vintage postal look for your own space! One option is to take a photo of a vintage mail box and hang it on your wall. You’ll find these types of mail boxes in historic or old government buildings. Interested in something more authentic and 3-D? There are several companies that sell antique and replica vintage postal boxes that you can purchase and install in your home (or even outside). No matter which way you choose to show off your vintage tastes, you’ll have a conversation piece that will entertain your guests for years to come!

Dew Drops Reflecting the World

Water droplets on leavesHello, and welcome to my 200th post! I want to give a big thanks to all of my readers and followers who have supported my blog thus far! I wanted to have a really cool picture for this post, and I think I’ve got it with the picture above. I noticed several drops of dew as I was walking toward work, and decided it would be a great opportunity to take an awesome picture. The glossy water really stands out against the matte leaves. If you look closely, you can see the clouds and sky reflected in the water droplets. I felt this simple, yet complicated image, was a great way to celebrate my 200th post! Looking forward to creating more posts that provide lots of inspiration for your space!

Chocolate Cake and Flowers

Chocolate pound cake with lilacI was sitting at my desk one day with two random items nearby: a chocolate pound cake and a small lilac flower. I thought about how these two items could possibly go together, so I decided to combine them! I laid out the cake, topped it with the flower, and took a photo. I love the look of food mixed with flora! A similar photo could be used to decorate a kitchen, dining room, or breakfast nook. You can take any combination of your favorite food and flora to create a photo that’s both delicious and colorful! Sometimes the best art we own is the kind we make ourselves. No matter what combination you choose, you’ll have an inspiring decor that’s uniquely you!

Pink Kwanzans

Pink magnolia treeWhile I enjoy cherry blossoms, they only bloom for about two weeks and then they’re gone. Kwanzan cherry trees, however, keep blooming long after other cherry blossoms have fallen. Pictured above is a shot of the blooming cherry trees where I work. It’s wonderful to still be able to see pretty pink blossoms swaying in the wind! Additionally, it demonstrates the great combination of pink and green. You could use a similar photo as a focal point on a wall, or decorate your space with pink and green accessories. No matter what you choose, always remember that nature can provided the greatest inspiration for any space!

Note: I previously misclassified these trees as Magnolias; they are in fact Kwanzan cherry trees. The title of this post has been changed from Pink Magnolias to Pink Kwanzans.

Sunny Flowers on a Cloudy Day

Daffodil outside buildingThe other day I was reminded that even on a cloudy day, nature can still provide a bit of sunshine. As I exited the building where I work, I saw these beautiful daffodils flanking the entrance. Since I had my camera on me, I decided to snap a photo. It was a great reminder of nicer weather, and the flower itself is quite a cheery color. No matter how bad the weather there’s always some part of nature that will remind us of sunshine. Just like in life, we should always try to find the sunny side when our world is full of clouds.

Bunches of Creamy Cherry Blossoms

Creamy cherry blossom treeEven though the weather has currently taken a turn for the worst, I’ll always have beautiful, inspiring photos to look at! On the right you’ll see a picture of the creamy cherry blossom tree I used in a previous post. It’s great to be able to look back and enjoy nature’s beauty on rainy days. These types of photos are a great way to not only bring a bit of nature into your space, but also a way to remind you of brighter days ahead!

The Creamy Cherry Blossoms

White cherry blossomsWhen most people, including myself, think of cherry blossoms, they likely imagine the pink ones in my previous post. However, cherry blossoms come in a multitude of shades, including white. The blossoms pictured on the right is a picture of cherry blossoms from trees that grow outside my office building. It’s great to be able to see these beautiful blossoms and watch their petals fall like snow in the wind. As the photo demonstrates, these flowers even have a pop of pink inside some of them! Remember, pops of color work great with neutrals. If it works for nature, it’ll look great in your own space!
