The First Flower of Spring

Peace lily in garden.

Since I’ve been working from home, I have a front row seat to the goings-on in our garden. Last week we had our first flower of the season: a peace lily! It reminded me that no matter what happens in life, nature goes on (and quite beautifully I might add). The white, yellow, and green color combo is not only classic, but is perfect for Spring. The colors could be combined into a patterned throw, or you could use solid-colored pillows to dress up a couch, chair, or bed. Additionally, you could display a photo featuring a similar flower to tie the whole room together. Being at home gives you the perfect excuse to update your space for the season. Whether it’s repurposing what you have or adding a few new pieces, you can create the perfect space to reflect the season’s colors.

New Year, New Chair

For my first post in 2015 I’m going to show you how to transform your accent chairs! I found this fuchsia chair at my local big box store and thought it would go perfectly with the style in my bedroom. While it’s a great chair on its own, I wanted to think of a way to give it some extra flair. The solution? Fabric! In this instance I decided to use an extra pillowcase that had a tropical pattern, One of the flowers in the pattern was the same color as the chair’s fabric. I centered it on the chair’s back and viola-instant update! Before and after pictures are shown below.

This is a great and simple way to update your furniture! In addition to chairs, you could also use the same technique on larger items such as a sofa or loveseat. Whether you save money by using fabrics you already own or choose to buy fabric at a craft store, you can easily start off 2015 with a brand new look!

A Fall-Inspired Chair

Fall-inspired chairAs I was trying to figure out what I was going to do with the trees I created for Thanksgiving, I began to remove some of the maple leaves from the wall. I decided to stick the leaves on the chair I was standing on (so I didn’t have to keep climbing up and down the chair). Once I was finished, I got off the chair and noticed what turned out to be a brilliant decorating idea. As pictured on the right, I accidentally created a beautiful fall-inspired chair! Isn’t it amazing what can be discovered by accident? This would be the perfect pop for a dining area. Simply affix small maple leaves, poinsettias, snowflakes, or any other holiday-related item to your dining chair. This is not only an inexpensive way to temporarily update your furniture, but also serves to show off your creative genius!
