Decorate More than the Center of Your Table

Table decorationWhen you look for inspiration on how to decorate your table, the word “centerpiece” is always mentioned. But what if you won’t have a table full of guests? Decorate the side of the table you won’t be using. Our dining room table will seat six, but there’s only three of us. Instead of using a centerpiece, I decorate the other side of the table. As pictured, I have trees, angel candle holders, trains, garland, a vase with flowers, and miniature shops. It’s a great way to use various types of decorations to liven up a large area of your table. Remember, not limiting yourself to only a centerpiece is bold, creative, and lots of fun-try it out on your table for New Year’s!

(Merry) Christmas Tree

Christmas TreeIn celebration of today, I’ve included a picture of my Christmas tree. Every year I decorate it using a different theme. This year’s theme: sparkle! Every bulb I used has an element of sparkle to it (glitter, shiny beads, sequins, etc.). I find that having a theme every year lets me be more creative-I often use bulbs I wouldn’t have ordinarily used. You’ll also notice the bulb garland and gold bells with ribbons (like in a previous post) on the windows. Do you decorate with a theme? If not, give it a try next year! Merry Christmas!

Create Your Own Wreath

Christmas wreathInstead of keeping the same pictures on your wall year-round, try replacing them with wreaths. The wreath on the right (I made two) replaced a set of pictures that framed the dining room window. Buy a plain wreath at your local craft store, then decorate it how you want. I used mini-bulbs, snowflakes, reindeer, birds, flowers, and other ornaments. I suggest sticking your ornaments within the branches instead of gluing them. This allows you to re-use the wreath next year (and for other holidays), providing a fun and budget friendly holiday tradition.

Anything Can Be Used For Christmas Decorations

LighthouseDo you have an extra space that needs additional decoration? Peruse your own home before heading to the store. For example, the red and white lighthouse pictured (which was displayed in another area) would be an excellent addition to one’s Christmas decorations. Add it to a tabletop or shelf, then try surrounding it with garland, small snowflakes, or small bulbs. Now you have an instant new look without having to spend any money! Look around your house and see what you can create with what you already have-you might surprise even yourself with your creativity.

Candle Holders: Not Just for Candles

Angel Candle HolderDespite what many people think, candle holders can be used for more than displaying candles. I bought some beautiful angel candle holders but realized the candles I had wouldn’t work. Time for a creative solution! I looked at my Christmas decorations and decided to see how a bulb would look in the candle holder. I tried various colors/styles and finally settled on the blue bulb. Using something in a unique way is not only a conversation piece, but is also fun. Try it out at home to see if you like it. You can also be creative with pillar candle holders. Try stacking several bulbs or creating a pyramid of chocolates or other candy. Your only limitation is your imagination.
