Thanksgiving Decor: The Table

Happy Thanksgiving! In my last post, I’ll be showcasing the dining room table. I decorated the front half of the table with leaves and various types of faux pumpkins and squash. In addition to the centerpiece in my previous post, I also added a bit of whimsy by having a cute little turkey peeking out from behind the vase and angels.

The placemats (below) are both functional and tie together the room’s colors and decor. Another great idea? In front of each placemat, place a folded piece of textured paper and sit it upright. While mine is currently blank, you can use yours to add well-wishes, write your guests’ names, or create a mini piece of art.

Thanksgiving Decor: The Front Door

Front door_Thanksgiving 2015Every year I like to add some sort of decoration around the front door. Because of its proximity to the wall in my previous post, I decided the best choice would be a design that also used leaves. Instead of using the same type of leaves, I opted for larger ones in a slightly different hue and created a border around the door. It’s a simple design, but also adds a touch of color to an area that would otherwise be plain. Some people feel that you have to create a fancy design to have a cohesive look throughout your home. However, often a simple design is all you need to make a bold statement and create a unique space.

Thanksgiving Decor: The Living Room Wall

Thanksigiving_Living room wall 2015Welcome to my series on Thanksgiving decor! I’ll begin by showcasing how I decorated my living room wall. I wanted to do something different from the design I used last year, and decided to create a design that was reminiscent of leaves swirling in the wind-and I nailed it! As seen above, the pattern meanders up and across the wall to create a delicate and elegant design. I also created a heart-shaped pattern directly underneath the mirror, which adds a bit of whimsy to the space. I hope this first post provides some inspiration for your Fall decor, and that you stayed tuned for more fun decorating ideas!

The Sunning Sea Lion

Sea lion at the aquariumAs I made my way through the aquarium, I noticed a sea lion exhibit off to my right. When I went to get a better view, I saw a large sea lion (right) sunning itself. Unlike the sea lions in my previous post, this one was able to have a spot all to himself. This gives me the inspiration to create a cluster of similar sea lion pictures! You could take several pictures and create a collage, put them in a scrapbook, or frame the photos and use them to create a focal point on a wall. So what are you waiting for? With a few photos of your favorite animal, you can create a cluster of themed decor that will liven up your space!

Decorating with Underwater Photography: Part 4

Sea Nettle jellyfish_aquariumWelcome to my final post on underwater photography! As seen above, this post focuses on a Sea Nettle jellyfish. Jellyfish are beautiful and elegant, but also deadly, creatures. Most jellyfish exhibits have a simple background without other sea life in the tank. As a result, it’s easier to get a clear shot since they’re the primary focus of the frame. The vibrant blue background of this shot pairs perfectly with the jellyfish. It allows the brownish-green of its umbrella and the white of the tentacles to create the perfect underwater shot! Jellyfish come in many colors and sizes, guaranteeing you’ll find one that’s the perfect fit for your decor. Decorating with Underwater Photography: Part 2

Japanese King Crab_aquariumAs seen on the right, this post features a Japanese Spider Crab. When I walked up to the glass I couldn’t believe how big they were-and these were just juveniles! This picture is special because it gives the illusion of underwater night photography. There are usually a handful of exhibits in every aquarium that are in night mode, so you can easily take a similar photo. Photos like this are a great alternative to traditional Halloween decor! Hang your photo on the wall for a party to bring an elegant, but spooky vibe, to your space. With a bit of imagination, you can find creative and unique ways to display your underwater photos!

Decorating with Clocks: Part 2

Plain clock_officeWelcome to my second post on decorating with clocks! This time, I’ll be focusing on a more classic design. Particularly, this is the kind of clock most often seen in offices and public buildings. While it could be described as plain and slightly uninspiring, it still has a function in decorating. This type of clock is great if you’re looking for a clock that will blend into your space and not distract from other decor you already use as a focal point. Every type of clock, even plain ones, can look great in the right space. At the end of the day, a clock’s function is to tell time. As long as the clock does its job, then there’s always a way to successfully integrate it into your decorating scheme. Check back soon for more ideas on decorating with clocks!

Chocolate Cake and Flowers

Chocolate pound cake with lilacI was sitting at my desk one day with two random items nearby: a chocolate pound cake and a small lilac flower. I thought about how these two items could possibly go together, so I decided to combine them! I laid out the cake, topped it with the flower, and took a photo. I love the look of food mixed with flora! A similar photo could be used to decorate a kitchen, dining room, or breakfast nook. You can take any combination of your favorite food and flora to create a photo that’s both delicious and colorful! Sometimes the best art we own is the kind we make ourselves. No matter what combination you choose, you’ll have an inspiring decor that’s uniquely you!

Birds of a Feather

Birds of a feather_goose_ducksThere’s something that’s incredibly cute about different species hanging out together. Here we have a goose and two different types of ducks preening themselves. The differing colors stand out against each other and the watery background. The clear, rippling water creates a reflection of the surrounding landscape, and gives the shot an almost surreal quality. The earth tones and images are perfect for any decorating scheme or space. Remember, when it comes to mother nature you’re sure to get a great photo that will match any decor!

A Candle in the Darkness

Candle in DarknessThere’s nothing like the beautiful glow of a candle! It provides a soft, warm glow in the darkness and casts elegant shadows around it. A simple, elegant photo like this would be great in a bathroom, girl cave, or chill out space. Not only does the soft light in the photo go with any decor, but it’s also a reminder that there’s always a light in the darkness.
