Sometimes the most ordinary things can give us inspiration. While a bridge, road, and river alone aren’t necessarily special, together they can create a unique picture. An example is the photo above that captures just such a scene. The picture includes a curving road beside a river that is capped by a symmetrical metal bridge. The early morning sky, sun filtering in through the trees off-camera, and the green grass and bushes dotting the shoreline create a serene picture that would go with any decor. Enlarging a similar picture and placing it in a den or family room is an easy way to update your decorating theme. Can’t find a place nearby with all three elements? Even having two of the three features (i.e. a bridge and a road, or bridge and a river) would still create a great focal point in a room. No matter which combination you choose, photos are an easy way to bring an architectural look into your home.
With summer in full swing, there are so many different things to draw inspiration from. From florals, to bright hues, ocean beaches, majestic mountains, and lazy rivers, the decorating ideas can be endless. One inspiration often overlooked? The humble garden. Gardens can be full of colorful and unique blooms that will add the perfect pop of color to your space. One flower that ticks all these boxes is Foxglove. The elegant, bell-shaped flowers come in a variety of colors, such as the purple and white Pam’s Choice Foxglove on the right. A similar photo would look great enlarged and hung on a wall as a focal point in a living or dining room. No matter what type of flower you choose, you can easily bring nature’s inspiration into your home.
As the weather starts to get warmer and the days get longer, it can only mean one thing: time for cherry blossoms! There are a lot of cherry trees where I work, so every year I get to enjoy the beautiful flowers. The picture above shows one of the trees with the sun illuminating it from behind. This shot juxtaposes the perfect amount of light and shadow on the tree, giving the photo the perfect amount of contrast. A cherry, or any other type of flowering tree, is the perfect subject to photograph for use in your spring decor. Whether your picture occupies a tabletop or an entire wall, you can easily bring in the beauty of spring with a simple picture.
Welcome to Christmas 2016! I wanted to show you my tree before it was decorated. Why? No matter how many ornaments you have, you need a tree as a base. Our tree is the perfect height for the room, and has just the right number of lights. Having a great base for your decor means that anything you add will pop even more. The ornaments have now been added to the tree, so stay tuned for more posts that feature great holiday decor!
In my final post in this series, I’ll be featuring a stop sign. Of all the signs in my series, this one is the most classic! This sign would go well in any room, and blends well with any decor. The red will provide a pop of color to your space, while the white border creates a framing-effect on the sign. There are several ways to go about displaying a stop sign in your home. You could create a collage featuring multiple signs grouped together either on a wall or framed on a table. Alternatively, you could blow up a photo of a stop sign and make it the focal point on a wall. I hope you’ve enjoyed my series decorating with street signs. Stay tuned for more tips and ideas for decorating your space!
Need a sign for a hallway or stairwell? A pedestrian crossing sign is the perfect addition! It provides a pop of color, and will bring a bit of fun to a normally small, undecorated space. The photo on the right not only has the classic walk sign and arrow, but also grass and flowers, which adds an extra depth to the photo. You can easily find similar signs at any major intersection or street. No matter if you use one sign or many, you can create a whimsical feel for even the smallest of spaces!
Like the sign in my previous post, this is a sign you can have a lot of fun with. There are so many different places you can display a similar sign in your space. It would look great in a garage or carport, bedroom, bathroom, or even a laundry room. Group it together with other impound-related or no parking signs to bring a unique look any room. Stay tuned for more ways to bring the unique look of street signs into your home!
While the typical traffic signs are the usual choice for decorating, you can add a interesting twist by incorporating traffic signs. A limited-time parking sign would look great in a kitchen, bathroom, or garage. It’s a great choice for a room that has a lot of foot traffic. In addition, the blue background with white letters provides the perfect pop of color to any wall. There are a myriad of parking signs, so no matter your color scheme, you’ll find a sign that fits perfectly with your space!
Keeping with the theme of my previous post, this post features the lanes leading into a traffic circle. Although not a traffic sign, this would be a great addition to a traffic circle-themed wall. In addition, the gray of the road in conjunction with the white paint create a classic color palette that will blend in to your decor. You could create an international wall collage by displaying pictures of traffic circle-related photos from roads all around the world. A collection of signs in multiple languages will give your space a unique look that few could replicate. No matter where you live, you can create a great space featuring the unique signage of the world around you!
