Looking for a bit of sunshine during this dreary time of year? A floral pop is the perfect solution! This can include a vase with bright flowers, throw pillows with a floral pattern, or a framed picture. The pictures can be small and placed on a table or shelf, or large and used as a focal point on a wall. An example is the photo of the Black-Eyed Susans on the right. This bright yellow pop of color is a great way to bring Spring flowers into Fall and brighten up your space. No matter what type of flower is you favorite, you can keep it on display year-round to add the perfect pop of color to any room.
Welcome to my final post on patterns! I’ll be finishing off this series of posts by featuring another piece of clothing. This one is a formal top with a black and white floral pattern. This would be the perfect addition to a monochromatic space that could use a pop of pattern. Framing a similar print creates a visual interest and draws the eye upwards, allowing your visitors to take in the entirety of your beautiful space. In addition, this also saves money since you’re using patterns you already have in your closet. It’s great when your decor can do double duty, and even better when you can throw clothing into the mix! I hope you’ve enjoyed my series on framing patterns, and have found lots of inspiration for your own space!
As I walked through the lobby of my building, I notice a discreetly carved floral motif on the marble walls. I love how this type of decoration adds to, rather than takes away from, the beautiful marble. Three brass strips above and below the carving add interest. This is a great example of using detailed motifs that blend in with a room’s decor. Use different patterns, motifs, or accessories to create interest in your space, but keep it in the same color family to have a cohesive look. No matter what type of material you use, you can create an amazing look that won’t over power your space.
In part 3 of my Chest of Drawers posts, I’ll be using a more whimsical take on decorating. Whether you’re a kid or kid at heart, there’s nothing wrong with adding some cute stuffed animals to your bedroom furniture! You could add a variety of different stuffed animals, or have a specific theme. The two themes I used below are Hello Kitty and teddy bears. I have an abundance of both, so they were the perfect muses for my third post.
There’s nothing wrong with displaying a collection of stuffed animals, dolls, action figures, or figurines on your chest of drawers. Remember, a bit of whimsy is a great way to not only create pops of color, but also add a bit of fun to any space!
For my second post I’ll be going for a muted, elegant look. Today’s theme will revolved around a cream color scheme. As seen on the right, I used a lamp with a clear base and cream-colored shade, along with cream-colored boxes and one floral print box for a pop of color. As with my previous post, all of the items displayed are ones I already owned. The clear base of the lamp blends in with any decor, and allows the elegant, cream-colored theme to shine. In order to give the space a bit of color, I added a floral patterned box to the pile to create some visual interest. Once again, you can create amazing things when you use what you already own. No matter what type of boxes you use, you can create a chic, elegant look that will dress up any space!
I have many varieties of flora in my garden, including many types of bushes. The picture above is a photo of our Butterfly Bush. As the name implies, they attract butterflies when the bush starts to blossom. While our three bushes have pink flowers, these bushes also come in many different colors. They can get very large (no matter how much we cut them back they just keep growing), and are a great way to fill in a gap in your garden. Not to mention their lovely flowers that attract butterflies. Pink and green are a great color scheme, and you can add it to your space easily and economically. You can add pink flowers to a vase, buy throw pillows with a floral pattern, or buy floral fabric and create your own pillow cases. The best colors and patterns come from nature, and you can easily bring those elements into your home!
