While having fun at the aquarium, I ran across this cute pair of puffins! Since my friend’s birthday is coming up, this pair gave me the perfect inspiration for possible presents. You can use a photo of animal friends to create a card, use it as the cover for a scrapbook, or simply frame the picture and give it as a gift. There are many types of animals for you to photograph, along with a variety of settings-from zoos and aquariums, to your very own backyard. With a bit of patience, you’ll be able to capture the perfect pairing of animal friends!

Decorating with Underwater Photography: Part 4
Welcome to my final post on underwater photography! As seen above, this post focuses on a Sea Nettle jellyfish. Jellyfish are beautiful and elegant, but also deadly, creatures. Most jellyfish exhibits have a simple background without other sea life in the tank. As a result, it’s easier to get a clear shot since they’re the primary focus of the frame. The vibrant blue background of this shot pairs perfectly with the jellyfish. It allows the brownish-green of its umbrella and the white of the tentacles to create the perfect underwater shot! Jellyfish come in many colors and sizes, guaranteeing you’ll find one that’s the perfect fit for your decor. Framing Your Favorite Fabric
After wanting a kimono for a long time, last month I decided to purchase a summer yukata (similar to a kimono, except made of cotton). Once I saw how beautiful the yukata was in person, I decided I had to share a picture with you! As seen in the photos, the pink fabric is accentuated with sparkling, silver thread and features several varieties of flowers.
Framing photos of your favorite fabrics is a great way to add personality to your space. It provides a pop of color, and the intricacies of the fabric’s design will have your guests talking. No matter what type of fabric you choose, you can create a beautiful piece of art that’s all you!
The Reception Room Chandeliers
As I walked around my state capitol building, I came across the grand State Reception Room. This room is rarely used, even in an official capacity, and access to the public is generally prohibited. However, because an entire wall of the room is floor to ceiling windows, I was able to take some great pictures! Specifically, I was able to capture the room’s Tiffany chandeliers. The room features two of these large chandeliers, and their size and elegance is befitting a room of this grandeur.
The chandeliers feature Czechoslovakian glass beads (above), along with intricately crafted metal accents. While most of us don’t have the type of home that features a large reception room, you can always bring a similar feel into any size space. Chandeliers come in a variety of sizes and finishes, guaranteeing you’ll find the perfect fit. From large crystal chandeliers, to smaller ones in bedrooms, or even chandelier lamps found in big box stores, everyone can find the perfect chandelier that will turn any space into something grand.
Blooms in Winter
Every year there is a group of large bushes that tend to bloom in winter, even when it’s snowing. They have a variety of colors, but this time I decided to snap a photo of a bush that features pink and white flowers. I love flowers that are made up of more than one color! This gives me the perfect inspiration for a decorating theme. Using pops of pink and white against a neutral base is the perfect addition to your space. You could use accessories such as throw pillows, vases, a similar picture framed on a table, or a rug. Additionally, you could accent the pops of white and pink with other pastel colors that are perfect for welcoming spring. Even in winter, nature can provide pops of color and the perfect inspiration to brighten up your space!
Frog Friend in the Backyard
Since summer we’ve been hearing croaking coming from somewhere in the backyard. Last weekend I was out back raking the leaves when I came across a curious creature. As raked leaves near the back door, I noticed something green that was sitting in a spot previously covered by leaves-a frog! I thought it was cute, so I snapped a photo. It’s amazing what you can find in your own backyard! This is the type of photo that would be great displayed in a kid’s room, used in a nature-based scrapbook, or framed and displayed and given to someone who loves reptiles. Even though winter is coming, you can still find nature right outside your door. Whether you photograph reptiles or other wildlife, you can always find nature’s creatures all around you!
The Blooming Rose
This week I received a pretty bouquet as a going-away present from a co-worker. It included roses, lilies, and carnations. The roses were closed up in the morning, but by the next day they had really opened up. I took a picture of one rose (right) and thought I’d post it to my blog. I love how intricate the rose looks-the multiple layers of the petals is amazing. Besides adding a pop of color and interest to my space, it also gave me an idea! If you get a bouquet with various types of flowers, why not turn it into an art project? Take a picture of each flower, then frame it. You can group all the pictures together or spread them out on multiple walls. So next time you get a bouquet, use your camera to enjoy those flowers year-round!
The Tree Trunks
It was a warm summer day as we walked down the path to find the beach. Off in the distance there appeared to be a trunk with mushrooms growing out of it. Once I zoomed in with my camera, I realized it was actually a shriveled up vine. Either way, this shot makes a great picture. I love how the two trunks frame the photo with the vine in between and green foliage in the background. I love it when nature frames a shot for you! This not only looks cool, but it’s fun to pick out all the little details in the picture. Notice the moss, branch, or details in the vine? You can take a similar picture anywhere there’s lots of greenery (park, beach, your own yard, etc.). No matter if your nature-made frame is tree trunks, flowers, bushes, or even water, you can have a photo that’s both beautiful and full of nature!
Reptile in the City
No matter where you live there’s always wildlife thriving around you. Case in point, the lizard pictured above! This lizard has been living on/under my front porch for years. The first time I saw it it was very small; now it just keeps growing! I happened to be working in the yard one day and was able to snap a picture while it was sunning itself. If I knew someone who loved reptiles, it would be a great idea to take the picture, frame it, and give it as a gift. Nothing says friendship like sharing a great photo. Remember it’s not only cool to decorate your own space, but to help others decorate theirs, too!
Grand Chandeliers
When I saw this chandelier in one of my local libraries I thought, “wow!” I love the detail of the ironwork and all of the bright bulbs. This is the type of photo I’d use in a dining room or some other formal setting. If you have several pictures of chandeliers, frame them and create a motif on your wall. Alternatively, you could use the wide shot (pictured), then zoom in on the various details in the ironwork and frame those, too. Remember, there are many ways to dress up your walls-the key is to use your imagination.
