Welcome to my final post on patterns! I’ll be finishing off this series of posts by featuring another piece of clothing. This one is a formal top with a black and white floral pattern. This would be the perfect addition to a monochromatic space that could use a pop of pattern. Framing a similar print creates a visual interest and draws the eye upwards, allowing your visitors to take in the entirety of your beautiful space. In addition, this also saves money since you’re using patterns you already have in your closet. It’s great when your decor can do double duty, and even better when you can throw clothing into the mix! Picture a Pattern: Part 5
In previous posts I’ve featured patterns from boxes, clothing, and pieces of furniture. Another great object to find patterns? Tissue boxes! It’s probably the last thing you’d think of (I know I did!), but these little squares can provide great patterns and inspiration. On the right is a whimsical blue and white pattern that would look great framed and put in any space. The various shades of blue give this pattern a greater flexibility in matching with colors already in your decorating theme. In addition, the shades of white give it an extra pop that makes the pattern stand out. Tissue boxes come in a wide variety of colors and patterns, and many brands offer seasonal color palates that will give you a myriad of options throughout the year. Remember, by thinking outside the box, you can find surprising new ways to be inspired!
Picture a Pattern: Part 3
In my third post I’ll be highlighting another source of inspiration for your home decor: clothing! The picture above is a photo of one of my favorite dresses. It features various types of patterns in yellow, black, white, grey, and brown. These colors go great with a neutral color palette! The pops of yellow are the perfect addition to a bedroom, den, or hallway wall. The colors blend perfectly together and contain hues that everyone has in their home. Inspiration can come from many sources, so keep your eyes open for great ideas that can be as close as your own closet!
A Bend in the Tracks
On one of my daily walks, I made my way down a hill and saw these railroad tracks curving around a bend. I like how the tracks are flanked on both sides by a fence, in addition to the trees that seem to lean inwards. Though you may not think so, there are so many possibilities with a photo like this! It would look great displayed in a living room or den, or could be the inspiration for a new decorating theme that incorporates earth tones mixed with metal and wood-based accessories. Taking photos of places near your home or work is a great way to find new ways to inspire yourself and decorate your space. Whether displaying your works of photography, or using them as a base for new decor, there’s a whole world out there waiting to inspire you!
Snow-Capped Mountain Range
On a recent walk I happened to look over towards the bay and noticed the snow-capped mountains in the distance. I love the layers of colors in this photo: the blue of the water, green trees, and white mountains. You can bring a similar color trio into your space as well! Try adding blue, green, and white throw pillows to a couch or bed to update the look. The pillows can be plain, or you can go bold with a large geometric pattern. We often want to start fresh for the new year, but a complete overhaul of your decor can be costly. By using a few throw pillows to update your look, you can easily, and affordably, update your space.

A Snowy Beginning to 2016
Welcome to my first post of 2016! Hope you all had a Merry Christmas, and are ready for a new year. We recently got our first snow, which gave me a great inspiration for today’s post. As seen on the right, I was able to snap a picture of our snow-covered Butterfly Bush. The snow on the end of the branches makes it appear that the bush is sprouting white flowers. Photos featuring winter scenery are a great way to bring a cool color palette into your home. Add accessories in silver or gray, and you’ve instantly updated your space! It’s Beginning to Look A Lot Like Christmas
For my first Christmas related post, I’ll be showcasing the Christmas tree at my state capitol. I love how every year they put a big tree in the rotunda and decorate it! This year the tree is decorated with various Disney princesses, snowflakes, candy canes, and various stuffed animals. Public displays are the perfect place to get ideas for decorating. When you have time, check out the displays at your local malls, downtowns, or offices. You’re sure to find inspiration to add an extra touch to your own holiday decor!
Thanksgiving Decor: The Living Room Wall
Welcome to my series on Thanksgiving decor! I’ll begin by showcasing how I decorated my living room wall. I wanted to do something different from the design I used last year, and decided to create a design that was reminiscent of leaves swirling in the wind-and I nailed it! As seen above, the pattern meanders up and across the wall to create a delicate and elegant design. I also created a heart-shaped pattern directly underneath the mirror, which adds a bit of whimsy to the space. I hope this first post provides some inspiration for your Fall decor, and that you stayed tuned for more fun decorating ideas!
