The Sunning Sea Lion

Sea lion at the aquariumAs I made my way through the aquarium, I noticed a sea lion exhibit off to my right. When I went to get a better view, I saw a large sea lion (right) sunning itself. Unlike the sea lions in my previous post, this one was able to have a spot all to himself. This gives me the inspiration to create a cluster of similar sea lion pictures! You could take several pictures and create a collage, put them in a scrapbook, or frame the photos and use them to create a focal point on a wall. So what are you waiting for? With a few photos of your favorite animal, you can create a cluster of themed decor that will liven up your space!

A Sunset at the Ocean

Sunset at the oceanWhat a view-nothing like a sunset at the beach! Though they take a bit of planning, sunset photos are a must-have for anyone that wants to bring the outdoors into their space. Sunsets provide a myriad of colors that are sure to go with whatever decorating scheme you’re using. The surrounding area-ocean, forest, river, or city-can provide an additional backdrop to your photo. No matter what colors you want to decorate with, a sunset will provide all the inspiration you need.

Jellyfish on the Beach

Jellyfish on beachOn the second day of my vacation I decided to visit one of the many state parks along the coast. As I walked along the shore, I noticed a number of things that looked out of place among the usual shells, rocks, and other debris. Moving closer to take a look I found out they were all jellyfish. Not just any jellyfish, they were purple jellyfish! These type aren’t native to the state I was in (I was told they’re usually found in California), so to see these was a real treat. Seeing unusual things is one great aspects of a vacation, and can help you develop all types of decoration ideas. Besides framing and displaying a similar photo, you could buy fabric that features jellyfish and use it to create pillow cases, make a blanket, or reupholster a piece of furniture. As I’ve said before, nature can be a great inspiration for decorating. Whether on land or at sea, you’re sure to find something to inspire you!

The Well Manicured Path

Manicured_meandering pathOne day, I decided to travel a bit further than usual on my daily walk. When I did, I discovered this well manicured, meandering path. I love the simple design of this area, and thought it was a great inspiration for an outdoor space. The picture above is a great example of a low-maintenance way to create a great look for any outdoor area. You can border a path or patio with pebbles, and then add bark for a bit of texture. In addition, planting evergreen shrubs or drought resistant succulents is a great way to incorporate a touch of green into the space. Looking for a touch of color without having to water flowers? Use glass floats in your favorite colors throughout your new landscape to add both interest and whimsy. Whether inside or out, you can find great inspiration to create a beautiful space!

Symmetrical Spaces

Symmetrical marble rotundaThe picture above is an example of a symmetrical space. While the space pictured is large, it can serve as a great inspiration for your own home. Adding symmetry is a great way to add a classic design element to your space. One place to start is in a bedroom. Center your bed on a wall and add matching tables or night stands on either side of the bed. You can also adorn each table with a lamp, or put up a line of pictures above the bed (I’d suggest an even number of pictures), to create this look. Not looking to re-do an entire room? Start small by using a shelf or dresser. You can use books, accessories, matching picture frames, or a variety of other items to create a symmetrical look. Remember, even the largest of designs can be scaled down to fit any space. All you need is a bit of inspiration and imagination to create a great look!

Old School Postal Box

5-24-15_IMG_1395 copyWhen I saw this antique postal box in a building, I thought it was the coolest thing ever! While it’s no longer in use, the postal box has been kept in perfect condition over the years. Vintage items like this are great conversation pieces, and also makes you think about the craftsmanship we use to put into everyday items. Looking to add some vintage charm of your own? There are several ways you can get the vintage postal look for your own space! One option is to take a photo of a vintage mail box and hang it on your wall. You’ll find these types of mail boxes in historic or old government buildings. Interested in something more authentic and 3-D? There are several companies that sell antique and replica vintage postal boxes that you can purchase and install in your home (or even outside). No matter which way you choose to show off your vintage tastes, you’ll have a conversation piece that will entertain your guests for years to come!

Once again, I want to give a big thanks to everyone who read my 200th post! Keep frequenting my blog for more great ideas and inspiration!

Evergreen Magnolias in Bloom

Evergreen Magnolia_pinkAlthough the plant pictured to the right looks like a Rhododendron, it’s actually an Evergreen Magnolia. There are several of these plants bordering a nearby building, and I’ve always liked the large, colorful flowers that bloom every year. These are the perfect type of blooms to put in a vase to adorn a bedroom, living room, or as a centerpiece on a dining table. This time of year provides lots of inspiration for decorating your space! Whether you’re using flowers to decorate your space, or drawing inspiration from the colors of nature, it’s the perfect time to create a space that’s all about Spring!

Pink Kwanzans

Pink magnolia treeWhile I enjoy cherry blossoms, they only bloom for about two weeks and then they’re gone. Kwanzan cherry trees, however, keep blooming long after other cherry blossoms have fallen. Pictured above is a shot of the blooming cherry trees where I work. It’s wonderful to still be able to see pretty pink blossoms swaying in the wind! Additionally, it demonstrates the great combination of pink and green. You could use a similar photo as a focal point on a wall, or decorate your space with pink and green accessories. No matter what you choose, always remember that nature can provided the greatest inspiration for any space!

Note: I previously misclassified these trees as Magnolias; they are in fact Kwanzan cherry trees. The title of this post has been changed from Pink Magnolias to Pink Kwanzans.

Blooms in Winter

Bloom in winter_pink and whiteEvery year there is a group of large bushes that tend to bloom in winter, even when it’s snowing. They have a variety of colors, but this time I decided to snap a photo of a bush that features pink and white flowers. I love flowers that are made up of more than one color! This gives me the perfect inspiration for a decorating theme. Using pops of pink and white against a neutral base is the perfect addition to your space. You could use accessories such as throw pillows, vases, a similar picture framed on a table, or a rug. Additionally, you could accent the pops of white and pink with other pastel colors that are perfect for welcoming spring. Even in winter, nature can provide pops of color and the perfect inspiration to brighten up your space!

Cheerful Cherry Blossoms

Cherry blossoms_close upOne day, I woke up and realized the cherry tree was about to bloom. It’s been a mild winter here, so the flowers are blooming early. As seen on the right, we have some gorgeous pink blossoms this year. I love getting close up shots of flowers! It’s so interesting to see the variations in color and shape from flower to flower. Displaying pictures of flowers is a great way to add a pop of color to any space. Nature provides an abundance of inspiration, all you need to do is keep an eye open for the beauty around you!
