Every year I like to add some sort of decoration around the front door. Because of its proximity to the wall in my previous post, I decided the best choice would be a design that also used leaves. Instead of using the same type of leaves, I opted for larger ones in a slightly different hue and created a border around the door. It’s a simple design, but also adds a touch of color to an area that would otherwise be plain. Some people feel that you have to create a fancy design to have a cohesive look throughout your home. However, often a simple design is all you need to make a bold statement and create a unique space.

Thanksgiving Decor: The Living Room Wall
Welcome to my series on Thanksgiving decor! I’ll begin by showcasing how I decorated my living room wall. I wanted to do something different from the design I used last year, and decided to create a design that was reminiscent of leaves swirling in the wind-and I nailed it! As seen above, the pattern meanders up and across the wall to create a delicate and elegant design. I also created a heart-shaped pattern directly underneath the mirror, which adds a bit of whimsy to the space. I hope this first post provides some inspiration for your Fall decor, and that you stayed tuned for more fun decorating ideas!
The Arched Passageway
As I walked down this passageway, I noticed something unique in its architecture: mismatched archways. I love the combination of different arches in this hallway! It’s very unusual, and the addition of the marble walls and crown molding adds an extra special touch. This a great example of architectural elements that you can bring into your home. While many of us can’t afford to have a similar set of arches installed in our home, there are other ways use this look. You can mix square and round tables in a living room, use multiple styles of furniture, or install lighting in various shapes. Often we feel the need to have every detail in our decorating theme matching. However, adding unexpected details is a great way to make a space your own.
Decorating with Clocks: Part 4
Welcome to my fourth, and final, post on decorating with clocks! For today’s post, I’ll be concentrating on a clock you may have seen in the background of several other posts. Specifically, I’ll be showcasing the wall clock in my living room. We brought this clock back from Europe (I’m an Army brat) and have proudly displayed it from house to house. As seen on the right, the clock is oak with a brass-colored face that features roman numerals. The weights and pendulum, which are not decorative but are used to operate the clock, are also brass in color.
A close-up of the face, also shown right, shows the details of intricately etched clock face. Unlike the clocks shown in my previous posts, clocks like these are different in that their size and weight limit their location. Despite this, they can be a focal point and conversation piece precisely because they are so different. If you can’t make it to Europe to pick one up, they can be found online, at military bases, and in some antique stores. They come in a variety of finishes that guarantee you’ll find what you’re looking for.
Adding Accessories to Your Living Room
While our living room was pretty much put together, it felt like something was missing. Our coffee table seemed a little too bare. The solution? Add an accessory! My Mom came up with the perfect idea: a bowl filled with various objects. She found the items (a bowl, objects of various sizes and textures, and a place mat) on sale and brought them to me to put together. As seen below, it looks absolutely gorgeous on the coffee table! The second picture shows a close up shot of what the bowl holds.
The colors and textures in the bowl complement the rest of the decor throughout the space. In addition, the carved eggs are something we picked up years ago while on vacation. Overall, this addition costs less than $20! If you want to give your space a new look, all you need is a little imagination and some old treasures to transform your space into something chic and glamorous!
The Dining Room Window at Christmas
Hello, and hope you all had a Merry Christmas! For today’s post, I’ll be sharing how I decorated the dining room window. As seen above, I decided to go with a snowflake theme! I used pink, blue, green, and red snowflakes for the window and wall. Additionally, I added two silver flowers and a gold ornament to tie it to the theme I used on the Christmas tree. The items I used can be found at big box and dollar stores-a great and economical way to dress up any window! Though Christmas is over, you can still do something similar for New Year’s. And what’s easier than dressing up a window? No matter what 2015-themed decorations you decide to use, you’ll be sure to ring in the new year in style!
Mix Patterns
When you think of mixed patterns, most people visualize a disaster. But, as evidenced from this photo, it can sometimes work with interior decorating. The crown molding pictured features several types of patterns and colors. The key? The colors are muted and the patterns all have gold to tie them together. Having mixed patterns with a common element is a great way to try this trend. My suggestion? Buy a few throw pillows and add them to your bedroom or living room. It only takes a little pattern to make a big impact.
