The Artistic Water Garden

Water Garden_dryThe concrete structure pictured above is not simply an art installation, it’s actually a Water Garden! This structure is made up of multi-tiered fountains that were designed to create a unique urban oasis that included trees, a brick walkway, and lush lawns. How nice to walk out of your office building and be greeted by a lush lawn and the sound of flowing water! Sadly, the fountain was shut off due to leaks and a cracked foundation, and the repairs have been on indefinite hold. Despite this, it’s still a place that can be enjoyed daily by the surrounding office buildings. Remember, even places that have lost their luster are still a great inspiration. Whether it’s an old building or unused fountain, these places offer both a respite from the daily grind and a great photo op!

The Pyramid-Shaped Lamp

Pyramid-shaped lamp_lightMany would agree that most outdoor lamps can be described as plain. However, not far from where I took a picture in one of my previous posts, I spotted this very cool looking lamp! The top portion looks like a pyramid with alternating clear and opaque stripes. I love the sleek design of this outdoor lamp, and how it creates a pop of interest in an otherwise ordinary space. As the photo to the right proves, it doesn’t take much to add interest to any space. With bold choices and striking designs, you can create a design-worthy oasis that’s sure to please.

Sea Lions on the Dock

Sea lions in the bayAs I walked down the pier my ears detected a loud barking sound somewhere off in the distance. I instantly recognized it as sea lions! I followed the crowds and walked out onto a pier that was situated over the bay. When I looked down, I saw a large group of sea lions lounging on several docks that were floating on the water’s surface. This area is a major tourist spot, and even at the busiest times one can usually find a spot to watch and take a few photos. This brings up a great tip: check out tourist spots! Often times people tend to avoid touristy areas, but you can actually find great photo ops in those locations. Additionally, the nearby shops sold sea lion stuffed animals which would pair perfectly next to a similar framed photo! With a picture and a small purchase, you can turn a shelf or nightstand into an animal oasis that showcases both your photography and sense of whimsy!
