Christmas 2016 Has Begun
Welcome to Christmas 2016! I wanted to show you my tree before it was decorated. Why? No matter how many ornaments you have, you need a tree as a base. Our tree is the perfect height for the room, and has just the right number of lights. Having a great base for your decor means that anything you add will pop even more. The ornaments have now been added to the tree, so stay tuned for more posts that feature great holiday decor!
It’s a Capitol Christmas!
Welcome to December! This post features a 35-foot Christmas tree located at my state’s capitol. This year’s tree is decorated in a combination of traditional ornaments and a sea theme. It includes candy, bulbs, bells, snowflakes, Disney characters, and various sea creatures. The tall marble columns perfectly frame the tree, and the staircase in the background adds extra depth to the photo. No matter how you decorate your tree, you’ll create a festive theme that will brighten your space.
Merry Christmas and Thanks for a Great 2015

Dressing Up Your Office Door
Around this time of year we’re so busy we often forget to decorate a place we spend the majority of our day: the office! This year, I decided to inject a bit of holiday spirit by adding red bows to my door frame. I also added two large, gold snowflakes to my door and a red bow on the handle. If you don’t have an office with a door, you can dress up your cubicle with holiday decor or small ornaments. If you work in an open office, try adding a small Christmas tree or tape snowflakes around the edge of your desk. Remember, it only takes a little bit of holiday spirit to bring a smile to someone’s face!
The Christmas Tree
Each year I choose a different theme when decorating our Christmas tree. This year’s theme? Gold and silver! Every bulb on the tree has either gold or silver on it. In addition to the bulbs, we have other ornaments on display as well. They include new and old favorites, bought both at home and abroad.
Below are close-up pictures of a few ornaments. I also use snowflakes in various colors to fill in any gaps not covered by ornaments or bulbs. The snowflakes can be found at big box and craft stores. I’ve found they’re a great and inexpensive way to add color to a tree. If you’ve already decorated your tree, I suggest loading up at the end of December (they’ll be on clearance) and save them for next year’s tree.
How do you choose your Christmas tree decorations? Whether you have a theme or prefer a more random approach, you’ll have a beautiful tree that reflects the holiday season!
The Aurora Borealis on the Ceiling
Shortly after Thanksgiving, as is tradition, our Christmas tree was up and on display. When I passed the tree one night I looked up at the ceiling and was amazed at what I saw. As the picture on the right demonstrates, my ceiling looked like the aurora borealis! Not only does this give our ceiling a bit of character, but it also makes a nice picture. You can easily take a similar picture by taking a photo of the ceiling above a lighted tree. Once the picture is taken, you can frame and display it on a shelf along with other winter-related items of a similar hue (bulbs, ornaments, snowflakes, etc.). With all the lights and colors of the season, it’s easy to take inspiration from what’s around you to create a decorating scheme that looks beautiful throughout the entire holiday season!
