The Driftwood Ship

Driftwood shipWhen you go for a stroll on the beach, one often comes across large pieces of driftwood. On one beach, we came across a large old-growth tree that washed up on shore. Over time, it was cut up to look like a ship washed up on shore. I loved the look, so I decided to snap a photo and share it with you. While most people wouldn’t find something similar on any beach, it can still be a great inspiration! Large pieces of driftwood can be found on most beaches, and if you take a photo from the right angle, you can get an amazing shot. Your unique photo will be the perfect addition to any space, and will also capture a great memory of your fun day at the beach!

The Alien-Landscape Beach: A Close-up

Alien beach_close-upPictured on the right is a close-up of the rocky shores seen in my previous post. It’s amazing to see how the seaweed covered rocks have been formed and shaped after centuries of being hit by waves. Such a unique photo is not only a great focal point, but also a great conversation starter in any space. If you have several photos of the same type of landscape, you can arrange a series of photos on a wall, or split them up between several different rooms. Hope everyone has a safe and Happy 4th of July, and that you’ll find great inspiration to brighten up your space.

The Alien-Landscape Beach

Alien beachAnyone who goes to the same beach year after year will inevitably see the landscape change. Sometimes there are dunes, driftwood, or even the shifting of an entire creek that flows into the ocean. Sometimes, the shift is more dramatic. The picture on the right is one such example. Over the years, the sand has shifted and eroded to reveal an alien-like rocky landscape. The oddly shaped rocks, covered in seaweed, create a striking contrast to the blue and white waves of the ocean and the expansive sky. Whether you’d use your photo as a focal point, or add it to a grouping of similar photos, you can create an otherworldly feel by using the wonders of nature!

The Mighty Oak of Spring

Mighty oak treeOn one of my lunchtime walks I came across this large, old oak tree and saw the perfect inspiration for my next post. The brown trunk is a natural neutral, and the green leaves add a pop of color that draws the viewers eyes upwards. Simple, everyday photos are often the best kind to use in decorating. Why? They’ll go with nearly everything! No matter if your color scheme is black and white, pastels, monochromatic, metallics, or brights, nature-based photos will always blend in. Can’t find an old-growth tree like the one pictured to the right? Using a photo of a favorite or nearby tree will allow you to achieve this look. Now’s the perfect time to go outside and snap a few photos that will allow you to quickly, and easily, update your space!

Sailing into the Sun

The Adventuress_view aheadDue to the nice weather this weekend, I decided to feature a picture of the same sailing ship from one of my previous posts. It’s on a day like this I can imagine being outside, enjoying the water and the views. The picture on the right perfectly illustrates this. This is the type of photo that would be great in a living or dining room. The neutral colors of the ship go perfectly with any decor, and the scale of the background creates a grandiose feel to the space. No tall sailing ships in your local marina? Any ship, sail or no sail, can still work in your space. As long as you’re able to capture the feel of a summer day on the water, you’ve got the perfect shot.

Sailing on a Lunchtime Adventure

The Adventuress_mast and sailOne sunny day I got word from a coworker that a tall sailing ship was docked at our local marina. The best part? They were offering free tours to the public. I decided it was time for an adventure! I grabbed a buddy and a quick five-minute drive took us to a ship called the Adventuress. It was awesome to be able to board the ship, talk to the crew, take lots of photos, and enjoy the view. The picture on the right shows the towering mast and its lowered sail. Similar photos can be taken by visiting your local marina. Not only will you be able to get out and enjoy the sunshine, but will also have a new addition to decorate your space!

The Forest in the Tree

Forest on treeOne sunny day I was walking underneath a large, old tree and noticed something interesting on one of the branches. As seen on the right, it looks like a mini forest! The combination of the bright green fern with sun streaming through its leaves, the mountainous landscape of the branch, and white flowers in the background make this an awesome shot. You can shoot a similar picture by checking out your local old growth trees. They may be hard to find depending on where you live, but if you explore a state park or area that features historic buildings, you’ll have a better chance of finding what you want. Now is the perfect time to snap pictures you can use to update your space. Whether hung on a wall or simply used for inspiration, you can snap a beautiful picture to usher in Spring!

The Snowcapped Mountain Backdrop

Snowcapped mountains in distanceLooking in the distance on a warm spring day, I was struck by how much snow was still on the mountains. I like the contrast of the snowcapped peaks on a warm, sunny day-so I decided to snap this photo! The cool shades of blue, pops of white, and earth tones make this picture the perfect trifecta! This is the perfect time of year to snap a similar photo of your very own. Once you snap your picture, all that’s left is to figure out where to display it. Depending on the size you choose, you could put it on a shelf, display it in a living room, or use it to add a bit of color to a hallway. No matter how you decide to display it, you can create a custom piece of art that will look great in any of your spaces!

Snow-Capped Mountain Range

Snow-capped mountain rangeOn a recent walk I happened to look over towards the bay and noticed the snow-capped mountains in the distance. I love the layers of colors in this photo: the blue of the water, green trees, and white mountains. You can bring a similar color trio into your space as well! Try adding blue, green, and white throw pillows to a couch or bed to update the look. The pillows can be plain, or you can go bold with a large geometric pattern. We often want to start fresh for the new year, but a complete overhaul of your decor can be costly. By using a few throw pillows to update your look, you can easily, and affordably, update your space.

The Illuminated Bulb

Illuminated striped bulbEvery year I choose a different theme for my Christmas tree. This year’s theme was two-toned: each bulb had to have two (or more) colors on it. The picture on the right, a silver bulb with glittery purple stripes, perfectly embodies this year’s theme. Instead of just taking a picture of the ornament, I decided to wait until it was dark. This allowed me to get a shot of it illuminated by the lights on the Christmas tree. Do you have a theme for your tree? No matter what style you choose, you can create a beautiful and unique tree that will shine brightly into the new year!
