Enjoying the Holidays Outside

Hello readers! It’s been awhile since my last post (2020, right?), but I thank you all for hanging in there with me! Since it’s the holiday season, I decided to showcase an awesome outdoor display. Outdoor displays are a great way to enjoy the holidays in a pubic place while social distancing. A great example is the photo on the left, which was taken at a local city park. The trees were draped in lights, in addition to a stage and other holiday displays. The park has several walking paths, which allow people to enjoy the displays at various points throughout the park. The best part? You can capture this fun adventure with lots of pictures to commemorate your trip. Print them out and display on a shelf to create a sleek look with your night photography. Want something bolder? Pick your favorite photo and blow it up to poster size, then use it as a focal point in a living room. No matter which option you choose, you’ll create a cool vibe that’s perfect for winter.

The Classic Black and White Color Scheme

When updating your decor, there are so many different styles to consider. However, sometimes it’s best to look back at classic themes-specifically the classic black and white. These two colors not only go with everything, but there are a myriad of shades for each to help you customize a look. Add a bit of glamour by adding in black accessories like a vase, lamp, or clock. Brighten up a space with crisp white pillows, flower-filled vase, or rug. Can’t decide between the two? Combine them by displaying a classic monochromatic photograph similar to the one on the right. In addition, you can amp up the wow factor by featuring an image with classic architectural elements such as columns, domed structures, and large stone blocks.

Easing into Spring

It’s the time of year when the sun begins to shine and the flowers begin to bloom! This also provides ample opportunity to photograph nature’s bounty. One such example is the photo above featuring a branch of cherry blossoms. It’s the perfect example of easing into spring. Why? It shows the flowers from bud to full bloom. In addition, the white flowers and brown bark act as a neutral, while the green buds act as a pop of color. A similar picture would look great enlarged and hung in a living or dining room. It’s the perfect update for Spring, while still blending in to your decor. No matter your decorating style, you can always find a way to bring nature’s beauty into your space.

Hide and go Peep

Happy Easter! While most people decorate their space with eggs, bunnies, and other well-known items this time of year, there are other options to brighten your space. One such example is the picture on the right. I’ve taken a plush Peep and have placed it among several types of silk flowers, creating a fun and unique Easter scene. You can create a similar scene using any combination of stuffed animals, foliage, and a background. Place it front and center on a table, desk, or shelf. Short on space? Create multiple scenes, photograph them, and hang them gallery-style on a wall. With a bit of imagination, you can create unique Easter decor that’s all you.

The Bridge Over the Falls

Walking further down from the location where I took the picture in my previous post, I saw a wooden bridge off in the distance. The bridge, almost appearing to be suspended between two trees, is positioned over the largest waterfall in the park. A similar photo would look great in a living or dining room. The unique look, along with the play of light and shadow, would be a great addition to your spring decor. You can easily take a similar photo by going to your local park or finding an area with a railroad bridge. No matter what type of bridge you decide to photograph, you can easily bring this architectural element into your space.

The Cherry Trees of Spring

As the weather starts to get warmer and the days get longer, it can only mean one thing: time for cherry blossoms! There are a lot of cherry trees where I work, so every year I get to enjoy the beautiful flowers. The picture above shows one of the trees with the sun illuminating it from behind. This shot juxtaposes the perfect amount of light and shadow on the tree, giving the photo the perfect amount of contrast. A cherry, or any other type of flowering tree, is the perfect subject to photograph for use in your spring decor. Whether your picture occupies a tabletop or an entire wall, you can easily bring in the beauty of spring with a simple picture.

Welcoming 2017 with Snow

Snow-covered intersectionWelcome to my first post of the year! I’m starting off by showcasing a picture featuring one of my local snow-covered streets. While winter might not be your favorite season, it can nonetheless lead to capturing great photos to use in your decor. The neutral look of a snowy picture makes a great addition to a den, bedroom, or living room. Not ready to bring the cold inside? Save your snowy photos and use them to update your space during the warmer months. No matter the weather, you can always use the wonder of nature to add a special touch to your home.

Cliffs at the Water’s Edge

Cliffs overlooking the seaI wanted to share this gorgeous shot of the ocean from high above the cliffs. The expansive ocean and endless blue sky give this photo a grandiose feel. Using photos that show something on such a large scale can make even the smallest of spaces seem bigger. You can find similar pictures at big box stores, or create your own by photographing a body of water or other natural landscape from an elevated position. By using large-sized prints, you can create the perfect scale in any room. No matter what type of photograph you use, you’re sure to create the perfect look to compliment your space!

Life within the Rock

Life within the rockWhile taking a walk along the shore, we often ignore the rocks and boulders we encounter on the sand. However, one day I decided to stop at a large boulder that was partially submerged in water. What did I find? A myriad of sea creates! From barnacles to clams, and even fossils, I was able to get a glimpse of an underwater kingdom. Want to display a similar type of photo in your space? A coastline or tide pool is a great place to take a photo that exposes part of the underwater world. Depending on your location, you can photograph starfish, sea anemones, fossils, barnacles, and other sea life. No matter what you photograph, you’ll be showcasing the wonders of the ocean while adding cool summer decor to your space!

The Glowing Clouds Beyond the Trees

Setting sun beyond treesOne evening, my Mom called me over to the window to view the glowing clouds during a sunset. I love the various shades of orange, red, purple, and blue! The trees appear to frame the photo, creating a unique shot. If you have a favorite time of day when you think the sky looks its best, take a photo and display it prominently in your home. This will not only allow you to show off your photography skills, but you’ll also have a great addition to your wall. Displaying a photo on your wall is a great way to bring new life into an old space. No matter if it’s sunrise, sunset, or high noon, you’ll find the perfect time to photograph the perfect sky!
