The Dining Room Window at Christmas

Dining room window Christmas 2014Hello, and hope you all had a Merry Christmas! For today’s post, I’ll be sharing how I decorated the dining room window. As seen above, I decided to go with a snowflake theme! I used pink, blue, green, and red snowflakes for the window and wall. Additionally, I added two silver flowers and a gold ornament to tie it to the theme I used on the Christmas tree. The items I used can be found at big box and dollar stores-a great and economical way to dress up any window! Though Christmas is over, you can still do something similar for New Year’s. And what’s easier than dressing up a window? No matter what 2015-themed decorations you decide to use, you’ll be sure to ring in the new year in style!

The Carnation

Carnation_pink and whiteTo the right is another flower that was part of the bouquet mentioned in my previous post. I love the pink and cream color of this carnation! This flower inspires me to create a pink and white color scheme. Adding these colors can be done several ways depending on how intense you want the look to be. You can add pink and cream accent walls to a room for a bold punch of color, or simply add accessories. A lamp, throw, or ottoman in a pink and cream pattern will give you that pop of color without overwhelming the space. And remember, since it’s back to school time you can find great deals on accessories at your local big box stores. Now’s the perfect time to get great accessories at great prices!

The Sunset

The sunsetI looked out my window one night around sunset and noticed the beautiful colors in the sky. I love sunsets that have different colors, especially the pinks and oranges featured in my photo. I also like the shape of the clouds and how they stretch across the sky. Not all sunsets are this colorful, but when they are it’s time to grab your camera! This type of photo would be great to display on a shelf or desk. It will give you a subtle pop of color and remind you of beautiful sunsets to come.

The Butterfly Bush

The butterfly bushI have many varieties of flora in my garden, including many types of bushes. The picture above is a photo of our Butterfly Bush. As the name implies, they attract butterflies when the bush starts to blossom. While our three bushes have pink flowers, these bushes also come in many different colors. They can get very large (no matter how much we cut them back they just keep growing), and are a great way to fill in a gap in your garden. Not to mention their lovely flowers that attract butterflies. Pink and green are a great color scheme, and you can add it to your space easily and economically. You can add pink flowers to a vase, buy throw pillows with a floral pattern, or buy floral fabric and create your own pillow cases. The best colors and patterns come from nature, and you can easily bring those elements into your home!

The Rhododendron

Pink rhododendronAs I was admiring the front garden I decided to take a picture of our rhododendron. It was supposed to be a bright pink, but the first year it bloomed it was extremely pale in color. However, with every year that passes the flowers tend to get brighter. This was the first time this has happened with a rhododendron we’ve planted, but each plant is different. This type of picture would be a great poster or mural on an accent wall for someone who loves flowers or a cream and pink color scheme. This is also the type of photo I’d frame and put on a desk to remind me of the outdoors (especially if your workplace has few windows).

Grand, Ornate Spaces

Grand space with chandelierThough most of our spaces pale in comparison, you can still get inspiration from grand, ornate spaces. Whether it’s the colors, crown molding, lighting, or other component, these elements can be used in your very own space. Try a colorful ceiling, a cornice, or even an ornate fixture. Remember, not to go overboard-a little bit goes long way. What grand spaces inspire you?
