Classic Blue and White: Inspiration from Nature

Classic blue and white: cloudsAs I’ve stated in previous posts, you can find lots of inspiration from nature and what’s around you. An example is the classic blue and white color palette. The inspiration? The sky! This color combination provides just the right amount of brightness, while also being able to blend into one’s current decor. In addition, there are so many different shades of blue, that you’re sure to find one that’s a perfect fit for your space. You can go all out and have an entire room in blue and white, or you can add just a few accessories. Take a picture of the sky and hang it prominently on a wall, create a cluster of blue and white vases, add throw pillows, or add a new rug to a room. No matter how much blue and white you decide to use, you’re sure to create a bright and airy feel in your space!

Picture a Pattern: Part 1

Pink paisley ottomanHello! In this new series of posts, I’ll be featuring a number of patterns that are great for decorating. I’ll start by showcasing a pink paisley pattern (right) from an ottoman located in a bedroom. While the ottoman itself brings a great pop of color, I wanted another way to tie it into the overall decor. My solution? Frame a picture of the pattern! This allows me to better tie in the pattern to the rest of my decor. You can do the same thing with your own ottoman, or use a pattern from a favorite rug, comforter, or pillow. Stay tuned for more ideas on framing patterns to add a unique touch to your space!

When is a Rug not a Rug?

Chevron comforter carpetAnswer: when it’s a comforter! Ever since I was little, my Mom would use a full/queen size comforter in lieu of a rug in my room. Why? It’s machine washable, economical, easy to replace, and easy to change if you want a different color. In addition, there are more color/pattern options with comforters than with rugs. The comforter I’m currently using as a rug (right), features multi-colored chevrons. It provides multiple pops of color and protects the carpet underneath. Already have an area rug? Throw a comforter over it to not only create a new look for your space, but also provide extra cushion under your feet. It’s a great way to update a bedroom with minimal investment! Another tip: use a comforter that’s two-sided. One side of mine has chevrons, the other is a solid hot pink. This way you’ll have two looks in one, and will always be able to have a bright, stylish bedroom that’s the envy of all your friends!

Geometric Floors that Pop

Geometric marble floorWhen you think of flooring, several things usually come to mind. While most people immediately think of the type of material used, what about patterns? Pictured above is a marble floor featuring a classic geometric pattern. Geometric patterns are a classic design that can complement any space. While most of us can’t afford marble floors, there is a way to bring this classic look into your space. Similar looks can be created by using rugs that feature a similar pattern or, if you’re feeling creative, you can buy a plain rug and use cut-outs to paint out the pattern of your choice. The second option is the best way to really let your inner creativity shine. No matter how you decide to go about it, you can easily bring the geometric look into your space in a way that’s uniquely you!

Blooms in Winter

Bloom in winter_pink and whiteEvery year there is a group of large bushes that tend to bloom in winter, even when it’s snowing. They have a variety of colors, but this time I decided to snap a photo of a bush that features pink and white flowers. I love flowers that are made up of more than one color! This gives me the perfect inspiration for a decorating theme. Using pops of pink and white against a neutral base is the perfect addition to your space. You could use accessories such as throw pillows, vases, a similar picture framed on a table, or a rug. Additionally, you could accent the pops of white and pink with other pastel colors that are perfect for welcoming spring. Even in winter, nature can provide pops of color and the perfect inspiration to brighten up your space!
