A Contrast of Light and Shadow

Hello, and welcome to my first post of 2019 (and thank you for waiting for it)! Today’s post will center on the contrast of light and shadow. An example of this is the classic black and white color scheme. However, there are plenty of other combinations one can use to modernize the look. A perfect example is the picture above. Taken at sunset, it perfectly encapsulates the theme of light and shadow. The shadow of the tree pops perfectly against the glowing sky. A similarly bold picture would be the perfect focal point in a dining room or living room. The dark color draws the eye to the image, while the lighter colors bring a pop of color to the space. No matter if it’s sunrise, sunset, or somewhere in the middle, you can take a photo that will bring a classic color concept into your home.

Easing into Spring

It’s the time of year when the sun begins to shine and the flowers begin to bloom! This also provides ample opportunity to photograph nature’s bounty. One such example is the photo above featuring a branch of cherry blossoms. It’s the perfect example of easing into spring. Why? It shows the flowers from bud to full bloom. In addition, the white flowers and brown bark act as a neutral, while the green buds act as a pop of color. A similar picture would look great enlarged and hung in a living or dining room. It’s the perfect update for Spring, while still blending in to your decor. No matter your decorating style, you can always find a way to bring nature’s beauty into your space.

Various Phases of Cherry Blossom Buds

Although most of the flowers from the cherry tree in my previous post have fallen, there are other trees that are just starting to bloom. Once such example is the Yoshino Cherry blossoms pictured above. I was able to capture a branch that slowed the cycle from bud to flower in full bloom. The white blossoms, pink buds, green leaves, and blue sky background could be the perfect color palette to update your space for spring. The nature-inspired colors blend well together, and also allow for a pop of color via an accessory or large photo used as a focal point on your wall. The best part? You can easily customize this by going out and photographing your favorite flowering tree, then using that as a base for your decor. Remember, the only thing between you and a new spring look is the scope of your imagination!

The Rising Sun Behind the Trees

Sun rising_behind treesDuring a time of year when we’re dealing with cold weather and gray skies, it’s great to be able to capture the warm glow of a morning’s sunrise! A perfect example of this is the photo on the right. I took this photo around the time I’d leave for work, which means you could easily capture a similar photo on your way out the door. As I’ve said in similar posts, this is the type of picture that would be perfect to display this time of year since it would remind you of the warm weather to come. Enlarging a similar photo and hanging it in a living room or bedroom is the perfect way to brighten up your winter decor. No matter what time of year, you can always count on nature to help you create a light feel in any room.

The Ins and Outs of Christmas

Lit window with tree_nightAside from decorating the inside of the house, we also make sure the outside is decorated as well. One thing we do every year is put up evergreen garland around the garage and windows. The best part? It lights up! This allows the house to look festive during both day and night. In addition, by centering the Christmas tree in the middle window and flanking it with flameless candles, it creates a picture-like effect for those looking from the outside. You can create a similar look by centering your tree in front of a window, making it a focal point for your home. No matter the size of your window, you can easily create a picture-like image that will entrance those both in and out of your home.

Christmas 2016 Has Begun

Christmas tree 2016Welcome to Christmas 2016! I wanted to show you my tree before it was decorated. Why? No matter how many ornaments you have, you need a tree as a base. Our tree is the perfect height for the room, and has just the right number of lights. Having a great base for your decor means that anything you add will pop even more. The ornaments have now been added to the tree, so stay tuned for more posts that feature great holiday decor!

It’s a Capitol Christmas!

Capitol Christmas tree 2016Welcome to December! This post features a 35-foot Christmas tree located at my state’s capitol. This year’s tree is decorated in a combination of traditional ornaments and a sea theme. It includes candy, bulbs, bells, snowflakes, Disney characters, and various sea creatures. The tall marble columns perfectly frame the tree, and the staircase in the background adds extra depth to the photo. No matter how you decorate your tree, you’ll create a festive theme that will brighten your space.

The Driftwood Ship

Driftwood shipWhen you go for a stroll on the beach, one often comes across large pieces of driftwood. On one beach, we came across a large old-growth tree that washed up on shore. Over time, it was cut up to look like a ship washed up on shore. I loved the look, so I decided to snap a photo and share it with you. While most people wouldn’t find something similar on any beach, it can still be a great inspiration! Large pieces of driftwood can be found on most beaches, and if you take a photo from the right angle, you can get an amazing shot. Your unique photo will be the perfect addition to any space, and will also capture a great memory of your fun day at the beach!
