Thanksgiving Decor: Part 1

Thanksgiving is one of the holidays where I like to decorate the house! In this post I’ll show you how I decorated a wall in my living room. I like to decorate differently every year and was trying to decide what to do with the accent wall in the living room. I had several packages of faux maple leaves, and decided that this year I’d create a tree! As seen below, the accent wall was plain except for a large mirror.

After about $20 worth of supplies (cardboard paper, faux maple leaves, and painter’s tape), I now have two beautiful trees! The final result is shown below. This was an inexpensive project that was completed in one day. Since the entire project is affixed to the wall with painter’s tape (I fold it over so it’s like double-sided tape), it’s easy to remove and won’t damage your walls.

So what are you waiting for? There’s still time to update your holiday decor, so go create an art piece that not only embodies the holiday, but also displays your creative genius!

The Path Through the Trees (Literally!)

Path through the tree trunkRemember that post I wrote a few weeks ago? I mentioned how at one point the path I was on literally went through a tree trunk. Thought I was joking? As you can see from the picture on the right, the park’s designers just cut through the trunk and continued the path down towards the beach. I really like this picture and all the symbolism it represents. It reminds us that although obstacles might try to stop us, you have to keep going! This is the type of image I’d put on a Thinking of You card. Images like this can not only benefit the one who captured the photo, but also those going through a rough patch in their life. Have an inspiring photo? Use it to bring joy, comfort, and a bit of style, to yourself or those around you.

The Spider’s Web

The spider's webAs I was walking through one of my local parks, something caught my attention out of the corner of my eye. I turned and saw a huge spider web strung between a tree. Though I’m not a fan of spiders, I enjoy looking at their webs. They’re simple, yet elegant, and can be created in a matter of hours. While most might immediately think of Halloween with this post, I think of something completely different. The image of this web makes me think of simple, elegant decor! This look can be accomplished using any color scheme or holiday-themed decor. The key? Making sure everything blends together. Try picking a combination of three or four colors and use those throughout your space. By doing this, the colors in your space will meld together seamlessly and effortlessly. And what better to tie the whole thing together than an elegant, simple picture? Nature is full is simple elegance, so why not use it to inspire you? Whether your inspiration comes from flora or fauna, you can find something that inspires elegance in your space!

The Sun Drifting through the Pine

Split pine with sunHello, and welcome to my 100th post! I decided to post a picture of this unique looking pine tree I noticed along a walking path. I was even able to take the picture with the sun shining down through the upper branches. I love finding unique pieces in nature! Not only are they fun to look at, but they’re also free. A photo like this would look great in a den or office. The earth tones go with any decor, and the sun shining down gives an element of warmth to any space. Next time you go to your local park or beach, look for the uniqueness in nature. Once you take a photo of what you find, you can bring the outside in and create a feeling of warmth all year long.

Here’s to another 100 posts-look for more tips and great things to come!

The Tree Trunks

Tree trunksIt was a warm summer day as we walked down the path to find the beach. Off in the distance there appeared to be a trunk with mushrooms growing out of it. Once I zoomed in with my camera, I realized it was actually a shriveled up vine. Either way, this shot makes a great picture. I love how the two trunks frame the photo with the vine in between and green foliage in the background. I love it when nature frames a shot for you! This not only looks cool, but it’s fun to pick out all the little details in the picture. Notice the moss, branch, or details in the vine? You can take a similar picture anywhere there’s lots of greenery (park, beach, your own yard, etc.). No matter if your nature-made frame is tree trunks, flowers, bushes, or even water, you can have a photo that’s both beautiful and full of nature!

The Tree Roots

Evergreen tree rootsWhen I saw this I couldn’t believe what I was seeing! But the closer I got I was able to see the wonders of nature. As you can see, the roots of this large evergreen are completely visible. Despite this, the tree seemed to be hanging on to the cliff. Upon closer inspection I was able to see various layers of sand and dirt intertwined with the roots. It was awesome to be able to walk closer and see the cavern left by the roots. This simple yet powerful image would be the perfect addition to an office or den. A photo like this not only makes a big impact, but it’s colors will go with anything. Want a similar picture? Go to an area that has cliffs (park, ocean, cove, etc.) and you should find something similar. Once you find that perfect tree, all you need is a camera and a good angle to have your own awesome photo!

The Tree on the Cliff

Tree on the cliffAs I looked up I saw this tree growing out of the cliff. I thought it would make a good photo, so I snapped a picture. I love how the tree looks like it can fall at any moment. Despite its precarious position, it’s standing strong. I think this also represents life. We often feel like we’re about to go over a cliff, but the key is to just keep hanging in there!

The Sunny Tree

Sunny treeAs I was walking I noticed the sun peeking through a tree bordering my local lake. I really liked the look of it, so I snapped this photo. I love the peek of the sun through the branches and how the tree seems to be illuminated from behind. The simplicity of the photo can be a great inspiration for your home. Using colors found in nature, keeping accessories to a minimum, and displaying elegant art work are all great ways to decorate your space. So what are you waiting for? Go out and find your inspiration in nature today!

Looking Up Through the Trees

Vine MapleThere’s nothing like looking up at the clouds on a sunny day! I thought this picture, taken looking up through my Vine Maple, was a great shot. You can see the beautiful green leaves against the backdrop of clouds and crisp blue sky. This type of photo would be a great addition to a bedroom or any other space that needs a pop of color. You can display a smaller photo on a shelf, or use a larger poster-size print. Sometimes it’s the simplest images that can give your space the pop of color it needs.

Bend, Don’t Break

Bending treeWhen this tree was pointed out to me on a walk I thought, “Wow, that’s cool!” Upon closer inspection I saw that this tree was perfectly healthy; but was growing bent towards the lake. I think many of us, at one time or another, have felt like this tree. But this tree demonstrates a powerful lesson when it comes to life: bend, don’t break. Know someone who’s going through something? Tell them to bend, not break, and give them the link to this post. Hopefully, it’ll give them the inspiration they need.
