As I went for an evening walk, I noticed the sun shining through some nearby trees. As I got closer, I realized it was actually the setting sun. I love how the color of the sky changes as the sun sets! It has elements of gold, white, and blue, and the shades of each color vary depending on where you look. A similar photo would go well in so many spaces! It would look great in a den, living room, dining room, or bedroom. And with the myriad of different colors, it goes with any decorating scheme. So what are you waiting for? Grab a camera, go for an evening walk, and get the perfect sunset picture for your space!

Twin Barns
I was checking out my local wildlife refuge when I noticed a structure off in the distance. As I got closer I realized it was a pair of historic, old barns. So cool! I love old buildings, and these had been lovingly preserved (looking through the windows it was obvious they were now used for storage). The distressed white paint on the building creates a shabby chic look. Does your space have a shabby chic or county look? Photos of old barns are the perfect accessory! They add interest to any space and are a great conversation piece. Not only will your guests marvel at your ability to tie a look together, but you’ll also have an awesome memory from a day spent finding old buildings!
The Tree’s Hand
It’s amazing all the different ways that a tree can grow! An example is the tree pictured to the right. The way the large branch towards the back splits off looks like a hand reaching out towards the sky. It’s a very quirky image, and is a great inspiration for a decorating theme! Aside from the colors (blue, green, white, and various shades of brown), a similar photo could be used as a base for a quirky decorating scheme. Like the tree, you can use accessories that blend in, more than stand out, within your space. Try a textured vase, throw pillows in various shapes, or an oddly shaped picture frame. Adding quirky elements will give your space a cohesive-look that’s not only colorful, but is also fun.
The White Flower
While walking around the lake I noticed this white flower that was attached to a vine growing on a fence. I’m not sure what species of flower it is, but I thought it would make a good photo. Sometimes it’s the simplest of images that are the best. I love how the white flower stands out against the green leaves. It’s a simple image that packs a punch! This photo would look great blown up to poster size and used as a focal point on a wall. Remember, a focal point can be a simple, elegant image that grabs your attention and soothes your mind.
The Lone Wolf
It’s the lone wolf! Specifically, it’s a Red Wolf. These wolves really blend in, and it was hard to spot them in the exhibit. There were several of them, but I liked how this wolf fell asleep while basking in the sun. The colors of the wolf-red, black/grey, and white-are shades that work in nature and at home. These colors would be the perfect addition to your space. They naturally work together, and one can choose a fabric that blends all of the colors together, or items that have each of these colors. As I’ve mentioned before, nature is a great place to get ideas for decorating your space. If you use color schemes found in nature, you’re guaranteed to have an awesome space!
Classic Penguins
Talk about a classic color scheme! Nothing is as classic as black and white. When I spotted this group of penguins, the classic color scheme instantly came to mind. The best part about using this theme? It can be dressed up or down! A photo like this one can be the inspiration for a dressed-down look. Try black and white pillows in a rustic pattern or dress it up with a fancy black and white lamp or side table. Which variety of this classic will you choose? Either way, your space will shine with classic elegance!
Bufflehead Ducks
As I was walking around my local lake I noticed these black and white ducks floating on the water. Were they really ducks? I’d never seen them at the lake before, and decided to take a few pictures…and investigate! An online search revealed that these fowl were Bufflehead ducks (specifically, the male variety). I thought these black and white ducks were really cool looking! Know anyone who loves nature or the outdoors? It would be a great idea to take a photo of your local ducks or water fowl and have it printed onto fabric for a personalized throw or pillow. A customized present is always appreciated. See an unusual animal while you’re out? If so, take a picture! If nothing else, it’ll be a great conversation piece.
Black and White and Cool All Over
When most people add pictures to their space, they often try to make the colors in the picture match those of their furniture. While it’s nice to have this cohesive design, why not try a black and white picture instead? The muted hues won’t clash with other colors, and it’s a classic look. This black and white picture of the Golden Gate Bridge will be a great addition to the family room. Using pictures or photos of places you’ve been (or would like to be) is a great way to add style to your walls!
