Thanksgiving Decor: The Living Room Wall

Thanksigiving_Living room wall 2015Welcome to my series on Thanksgiving decor! I’ll begin by showcasing how I decorated my living room wall. I wanted to do something different from the design I used last year, and decided to create a design that was reminiscent of leaves swirling in the wind-and I nailed it! As seen above, the pattern meanders up and across the wall to create a delicate and elegant design. I also created a heart-shaped pattern directly underneath the mirror, which adds a bit of whimsy to the space. I hope this first post provides some inspiration for your Fall decor, and that you stayed tuned for more fun decorating ideas!

Pink Kwanzans

Pink magnolia treeWhile I enjoy cherry blossoms, they only bloom for about two weeks and then they’re gone. Kwanzan cherry trees, however, keep blooming long after other cherry blossoms have fallen. Pictured above is a shot of the blooming cherry trees where I work. It’s wonderful to still be able to see pretty pink blossoms swaying in the wind! Additionally, it demonstrates the great combination of pink and green. You could use a similar photo as a focal point on a wall, or decorate your space with pink and green accessories. No matter what you choose, always remember that nature can provided the greatest inspiration for any space!

Note: I previously misclassified these trees as Magnolias; they are in fact Kwanzan cherry trees. The title of this post has been changed from Pink Magnolias to Pink Kwanzans.

The Creamy Cherry Blossoms

White cherry blossomsWhen most people, including myself, think of cherry blossoms, they likely imagine the pink ones in my previous post. However, cherry blossoms come in a multitude of shades, including white. The blossoms pictured on the right is a picture of cherry blossoms from trees that grow outside my office building. It’s great to be able to see these beautiful blossoms and watch their petals fall like snow in the wind. As the photo demonstrates, these flowers even have a pop of pink inside some of them! Remember, pops of color work great with neutrals. If it works for nature, it’ll look great in your own space!

Rainy Day Video

There’s nothing like looking out the window on a rainy day! What immediately comes to mind is the sight of raindrops dripping down the window, the sound of gusting wind, and the image of trees swaying. But why wait for a rainy day when you can get the same effect by watching my video? My second video, Rainy Day, is now available on my YouTube channel. You can access it via the My Videos page, or by clicking the image below. Enjoy!

Rain and Sun through the Window

Rain and sun through windowLast week the weather here was kind of sporadic. We dealt with a combination rain, wind, and sun throughout the week. One afternoon I looked up and noticed droplets of rain on my window, along with the bright sun peeking out from behind the clouds. I thought it was a pretty cool shot, so I took a photo! We’ve all seen similar pictures in galleries, so why buy those when you can create your own? You can easily create and display a similar picture in your space. All you really need is a window and the weather of your choice. Whether you chose a scene reminiscent of spring, summer, winter, or fall, you’ll create a gallery-worthy look that’s all your own!

The Seagull

Resting seagullTravel much? Notice that no matter where you go in the world that seagulls basically look the same? I think that’s kind of amazing. On the right, you’ll see a seagull that’s made its home near my part of the world. Seagulls always make me think of the ocean (a favorite spot for vacations). I love to watch them glide on the wind or diving into the water trying to catch a meal. I’ve seen many pictures of seagulls, so why not take my own? It’s a great touch to any decorating scheme. Your space doesn’t have to have a nautical theme for a seagull picture to work. As long as there’s something to tie it all together like similar colors, textures, or mood, almost anything can be tied together to make your space unique.
