Every year there is a group of large bushes that tend to bloom in winter, even when it’s snowing. They have a variety of colors, but this time I decided to snap a photo of a bush that features pink and white flowers. I love flowers that are made up of more than one color! This gives me the perfect inspiration for a decorating theme. Using pops of pink and white against a neutral base is the perfect addition to your space. You could use accessories such as throw pillows, vases, a similar picture framed on a table, or a rug. Additionally, you could accent the pops of white and pink with other pastel colors that are perfect for welcoming spring. Even in winter, nature can provide pops of color and the perfect inspiration to brighten up your space!

Cheerful Cherry Blossoms
One day, I woke up and realized the cherry tree was about to bloom. It’s been a mild winter here, so the flowers are blooming early. As seen on the right, we have some gorgeous pink blossoms this year. I love getting close up shots of flowers! It’s so interesting to see the variations in color and shape from flower to flower. Displaying pictures of flowers is a great way to add a pop of color to any space. Nature provides an abundance of inspiration, all you need to do is keep an eye open for the beauty around you!
The Aurora Borealis on the Ceiling
Shortly after Thanksgiving, as is tradition, our Christmas tree was up and on display. When I passed the tree one night I looked up at the ceiling and was amazed at what I saw. As the picture on the right demonstrates, my ceiling looked like the aurora borealis! Not only does this give our ceiling a bit of character, but it also makes a nice picture. You can easily take a similar picture by taking a photo of the ceiling above a lighted tree. Once the picture is taken, you can frame and display it on a shelf along with other winter-related items of a similar hue (bulbs, ornaments, snowflakes, etc.). With all the lights and colors of the season, it’s easy to take inspiration from what’s around you to create a decorating scheme that looks beautiful throughout the entire holiday season!
The First Snow Flurries of the Season
While some parts of the country have been dealing with snowy weather for awhile, we just got our first dusting of snow! I decided to snap a picture of the bush outside my window to capture the event. I love how the dusting of snow stands out against the green leaves of the bush. Many of us are used to seeing photos of a winter wonderland where everything is covered in snow, but you can also enjoy pictures that feature a smaller amount of snow. No matter how much snow your area receives, you can still photograph your own version of a winter landscape!
Rain and Sun through the Window
Last week the weather here was kind of sporadic. We dealt with a combination rain, wind, and sun throughout the week. One afternoon I looked up and noticed droplets of rain on my window, along with the bright sun peeking out from behind the clouds. I thought it was a pretty cool shot, so I took a photo! We’ve all seen similar pictures in galleries, so why buy those when you can create your own? You can easily create and display a similar picture in your space. All you really need is a window and the weather of your choice. Whether you chose a scene reminiscent of spring, summer, winter, or fall, you’ll create a gallery-worthy look that’s all your own!
The Cloudy Beach
When most people think of beaches they imagine sunny skies and miles of sand. However, as the photo on the right demonstrates, you don’t need those things to take a great beach photo. I discovered this beach after my journey through the woods mentioned in my previous posts. The beach was rocky and the sky was full of clouds. Despite this, I thoroughly enjoyed the beach and its accompanying view. A similar photo would be a great addition to your space now that the seasons are changing. The muted colors go well with a fall/winter decorating scheme, and a beach is always a lovely picture. So what are you waiting for? Get out there and capture your own fall photos to update your space for the season!
Cheer Up with Yellow Flowers
On the right you’ll see some beautiful yellow flowers from my garden. I love the cheery color! While flowers are expected in spring, these would be a great addition to your desk in the winter as well. The yellow color can boost your mood if you’re having a rough day. If nothing else, who doesn’t like to look a fresh flowers (even if it’s a photo of them)? So remember, it only takes a picture to bring a little bit of sunshine into your day!
Nature Photography: Air
While some animals aren’t exclusive to colder climates, certain varieties are. An example is this falcon I photographed. The white plumage is the perfect complement to any winter decor. Plus, the wood board background adds a rustic feel to any space. This picture can be hung in a main living area, bedroom, or office. You can frame as many types of animals that you’d like-your only limitation is your imagination.
Nature Photography: Land and Sea
Thumbing through a magazine you notice the awe-inspiring nature photographs of animals. How can you do the same thing without extensive travel? Visit you local zoo or aquarium! Bring your camera and you too can take inspiring nature photos. Since it’s winter, take photos of animals that live in colder climates. This picture I took of a polar bear would be a great addition to my winter decorating scheme. Frame the picture, or groups of pictures, and hang them on your wall. Ready to try it? Go out and see what awe-inspiring images you can capture!
