The other day I was reminded that even on a cloudy day, nature can still provide a bit of sunshine. As I exited the building where I work, I saw these beautiful daffodils flanking the entrance. Since I had my camera on me, I decided to snap a photo. It was a great reminder of nicer weather, and the flower itself is quite a cheery color. No matter how bad the weather there’s always some part of nature that will remind us of sunshine. Just like in life, we should always try to find the sunny side when our world is full of clouds.

A Moonlit Night through the Clouds
About a week or so ago I decided to stay up late. Before I went to bed, I decided to check and see if I could view the moon from my window. Luckily, I was able to get a great shot of the moon surrounded by clouds. I love the glow of the moon and how the surrounding clouds are lit by moonlight. It has a cool, calm color palette and is perfect for any space. You can easily take a similar moon photo to display in your own space. While I was able to take this shot from my window, you might have to go outside to get the best picture. Once you find a location and angle that suits the type of photo you want, start taking pictures! Next, all you need is to pick out a frame and display your photo. You’ll not only have a gorgeous photo, but a conversation piece that all who see it will enjoy.
The Cloudy Beach
When most people think of beaches they imagine sunny skies and miles of sand. However, as the photo on the right demonstrates, you don’t need those things to take a great beach photo. I discovered this beach after my journey through the woods mentioned in my previous posts. The beach was rocky and the sky was full of clouds. Despite this, I thoroughly enjoyed the beach and its accompanying view. A similar photo would be a great addition to your space now that the seasons are changing. The muted colors go well with a fall/winter decorating scheme, and a beach is always a lovely picture. So what are you waiting for? Get out there and capture your own fall photos to update your space for the season!
Clouds in the Lake
While gazing out over the lake on the dock mentioned in a previous post, I noticed the sky reflected on the lake’s surface. What a great shot! I love how the bright blue sky and fluffy clouds seem to be part of the water itself. I’ve always liked photos that feature bodies of water reflecting the sights around it. These types of pictures are very versatile and can go with any room’s decor. You can find similar photos at craft or big box stores, or try capturing one yourself. If you’re going to snap your own photo, there are a few things to remember. If you take the photo in the daytime, it’s best to take the picture on a bright, sunny day at a place where the water is relatively calm. A similar shot can also be taken at night using lights reflecting off a calm surface. Photos like these are both an easy way to add interest to your space, and showcase your photography skills. Happy photographing!
The Sunset
I looked out my window one night around sunset and noticed the beautiful colors in the sky. I love sunsets that have different colors, especially the pinks and oranges featured in my photo. I also like the shape of the clouds and how they stretch across the sky. Not all sunsets are this colorful, but when they are it’s time to grab your camera! This type of photo would be great to display on a shelf or desk. It will give you a subtle pop of color and remind you of beautiful sunsets to come.
Looking Up Through the Trees
There’s nothing like looking up at the clouds on a sunny day! I thought this picture, taken looking up through my Vine Maple, was a great shot. You can see the beautiful green leaves against the backdrop of clouds and crisp blue sky. This type of photo would be a great addition to a bedroom or any other space that needs a pop of color. You can display a smaller photo on a shelf, or use a larger poster-size print. Sometimes it’s the simplest images that can give your space the pop of color it needs.
Water and Mountains
There are lots of places to capture nature’s beauty. I like to find a body of water (or a place that has a view of one) and start snapping away! I was able to get a shot of a marina, clouds, and a mountain range-stunning! It’s a gorgeous view and would make a great work of art. An alternative to just printing the photo is to find a place that will alter your photo to look like a painting. You can find this service at online stores and in certain big box membership stores. Time to go out and find your own piece of nature to turn into art!
Give Your Cubicle A Window
Do you, like me, currently work in a cubicle? If so, you know what’s it’s like to not have a real window. My solution? Create your own! I used color paper to create grass, trees, a bush, sun, and clouds in my cubicle window. Not only did this allow me to be creative, but also gives me something nice to look at-plus I’ve already received several compliments on my work. Have a faux window in your cubicle? Try creating your own window this week. You’ll be surprise how much you, and others, will enjoy it.
