To the right is a picture I took of my local lake on a sunny day. I love how the rays of the sun shine on the water, while above is blue sky and sunshine. You have to be in the right place at the right time to get a shot like this, but when you do it’s so worth it! This is the type of photo that would be great to frame and display in any area of your home. You can also use the colors in the photo as an inspiration when chosing a theme for your accessories. As I’ve said in a previous post, you can get great inspiration from the colors found in nature. Have a local body of water? Whether a lake, ocean, marina, or creek, you can get a great photo of nature to inspire your decor!

The Lakeside Dock
It’s the time of year when the weather is slowly starting to change. Some days it can get quite warm, and I’m already starting to think about fun in the sun. And what’s more relaxing than a water view? When I saw this dock at the lake (which I went down to) I started to think of nicer weather to come. Not to mention the awesome view I got from the dock of nearly the entire lake. This is a type of photo I’d have tacked up by my desk to remind me of Spring/Summer. Have something that reminds you of better weather? If so, take a picture and use it to remind you of better days.
Bufflehead Ducks
As I was walking around my local lake I noticed these black and white ducks floating on the water. Were they really ducks? I’d never seen them at the lake before, and decided to take a few pictures…and investigate! An online search revealed that these fowl were Bufflehead ducks (specifically, the male variety). I thought these black and white ducks were really cool looking! Know anyone who loves nature or the outdoors? It would be a great idea to take a photo of your local ducks or water fowl and have it printed onto fabric for a personalized throw or pillow. A customized present is always appreciated. See an unusual animal while you’re out? If so, take a picture! If nothing else, it’ll be a great conversation piece.
Bird on a Reed
As I was walking around the lake I saw movement out of the corner of my eye-a bird hopping on a group of reeds. It jumped from reed to reed, never staying in one place long. Then, I was finally able to get a picture of the bird (featured in this post). It’s amazing how the reed can support the bird so easily. I especially love how you can see the ripples of the water in the background. I love the combination of land and sea (lake) in this photo. Overall, I think it’s just a cool picture. Enjoy!
Bend, Don’t Break
When this tree was pointed out to me on a walk I thought, “Wow, that’s cool!” Upon closer inspection I saw that this tree was perfectly healthy; but was growing bent towards the lake. I think many of us, at one time or another, have felt like this tree. But this tree demonstrates a powerful lesson when it comes to life: bend, don’t break. Know someone who’s going through something? Tell them to bend, not break, and give them the link to this post. Hopefully, it’ll give them the inspiration they need.
Marina Views
Aside from the ocean, I think marinas make a great photo-op. This photo was taken on a sunny day in an area that featured a lookout tower (which afforded me this great view). This is the type of photo I’d frame and keep on my desk to remind me of a fun getaway (literally if I had a boat!). Have a favorite body of water? If so, go to your favorite coastal spot, marina, lake, or waterway and create your own day-dream in a photo.
Use Photos to Remind You of Nicer Weather
For most of us, when we look outside we see snow, rain, sleet, or lots of clouds…how dreary! Want to cheer yourself up? Use some of the photos you took when the weather was nice! I took this photo of the lake on a sunny day just before the weather started to turn cold. It would be great to put this photo in a tabletop frame or blow it up to poster size. Looking at it reminds me of better weather; and gives me something to look forward to. Have old vacation photos? Frame those sunny photos and give yourself something nice to look at-enjoy nice weather year-round with photos!
Draw Inspiration from Nature
Do you live near a body of water or other type of natural space? If so, draw inspiration from it! Looking at this picture I took overlooking a lake near dusk, I can’t help but be inspired by the colors of nature-browns, blues, white, cream, pinks, etc. They’re all great colors to use this time of year. Have a piece of furniture you’d like to spruce up a bit? Add throw pillows in colors found in nature. It’ll not only add a pop of color, but is also a budget friendly option.
