While gazing out over the lake on the dock mentioned in a previous post, I noticed the sky reflected on the lake’s surface. What a great shot! I love how the bright blue sky and fluffy clouds seem to be part of the water itself. I’ve always liked photos that feature bodies of water reflecting the sights around it. These types of pictures are very versatile and can go with any room’s decor. You can find similar photos at craft or big box stores, or try capturing one yourself. If you’re going to snap your own photo, there are a few things to remember. If you take the photo in the daytime, it’s best to take the picture on a bright, sunny day at a place where the water is relatively calm. A similar shot can also be taken at night using lights reflecting off a calm surface. Photos like these are both an easy way to add interest to your space, and showcase your photography skills. Happy photographing!

Watching the Boats on a Sunny Day
As I was enjoying my day at the park I couldn’t help but watch all the boats going up and down the waterway. It was fun seeing all the different type of boats that people were enjoying. Some were simple row boats while others had yachts. But I’m particularly drawn to sail boats. I love the simple design and how it represents a classic nautical theme. Boats like this are the perfect inspiration to add a bit of nautical whimsy into your space! It can be as simple as a picture, pillows with a boat design, or even nautical rope decorating a shelf. Those these may seem like minor changes, even the smallest element can make a big impact in your space. Have a nautical element that inspires you? If so, it’s time to bring it into your space and let your style shine!
The Frolicking Sea Gulls
While at the park I mentioned in my previous posts, I saw a few sea gulls playing near a small stream. This stream was actually man-made to recreate a piece of habitat that was previously lost. Either way, the sea gulls seem right at home! It was awesome seeing this stream reborn and flowing towards the open water. The sun sparkling on the water emphasises the bright, sunny day. Need a pick me up during office hours? Take a picture on a sunny day and put it in your office. It will provide a ray of sunshine and remind you of fond memories of nature!
The City Park Beach
This past weekend I decided to go exploring! There was a city park I wanted to check out, so I went there not quite knowing what to expect. After parking, you make your way through the park until you see a sign for the beach. It looked more like a random path, but down I climbed. After a few minutes of walking down hill, you see a peek of water through the trees. Once you come out of the trees, you’re met by a beach and glistening water. The beach was covered in shells, and closer to the trees were native plants and grasses. It was wonderful looking out at the water and seeing the various types of sea life. It would be great to display a grouping of similarly themed photos together to remind you of fun in the sun. No matter where you are, you can look at the pictures to remind you of sunny days and fun times!
The Sunny Tree
As I was walking I noticed the sun peeking through a tree bordering my local lake. I really liked the look of it, so I snapped this photo. I love the peek of the sun through the branches and how the tree seems to be illuminated from behind. The simplicity of the photo can be a great inspiration for your home. Using colors found in nature, keeping accessories to a minimum, and displaying elegant art work are all great ways to decorate your space. So what are you waiting for? Go out and find your inspiration in nature today!
The Shimmering Lake
To the right is a picture I took of my local lake on a sunny day. I love how the rays of the sun shine on the water, while above is blue sky and sunshine. You have to be in the right place at the right time to get a shot like this, but when you do it’s so worth it! This is the type of photo that would be great to frame and display in any area of your home. You can also use the colors in the photo as an inspiration when chosing a theme for your accessories. As I’ve said in a previous post, you can get great inspiration from the colors found in nature. Have a local body of water? Whether a lake, ocean, marina, or creek, you can get a great photo of nature to inspire your decor!
Marina Views
Aside from the ocean, I think marinas make a great photo-op. This photo was taken on a sunny day in an area that featured a lookout tower (which afforded me this great view). This is the type of photo I’d frame and keep on my desk to remind me of a fun getaway (literally if I had a boat!). Have a favorite body of water? If so, go to your favorite coastal spot, marina, lake, or waterway and create your own day-dream in a photo.
Use Photos to Remind You of Nicer Weather
For most of us, when we look outside we see snow, rain, sleet, or lots of clouds…how dreary! Want to cheer yourself up? Use some of the photos you took when the weather was nice! I took this photo of the lake on a sunny day just before the weather started to turn cold. It would be great to put this photo in a tabletop frame or blow it up to poster size. Looking at it reminds me of better weather; and gives me something to look forward to. Have old vacation photos? Frame those sunny photos and give yourself something nice to look at-enjoy nice weather year-round with photos!
